New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on Tuesday proposed overhauling the state’s education funding formula to provide all public school districts with a flat rate of $6,599 per student.

Calling it his “Fairness Formula” in policy statements on Tuesday, Christie said aid for special needs students would continue even with any potential formula change.

Schools are funded through property taxes, which in New Jersey are some of the highest in the nation because of the state’s “unaffordable and broken school funding formula propped up by special interests and misguided Supreme Court precedent,” Christie said in a statement. …

All schools should be privatized. The market will weed out unionized flunkies and competition will force kids to improve. There really isn’t any need for government to be involved in education at all. For those who can’t afford it, proceeds from the state lottery could help those in need.

Ban teachers unions and institute school choice and it will be amazing how good an education you could buy for that amount of money...

Parents should educate their own children and only allow tutors they hire to train/teach like the parents did with Theodore Roosevelt and Abe Lincoln. No children were removed from the Natural Family unit for group/think Prussian indoctrination centers until the Communist and Humanist (evil)John Dewey destroyed our system of “education” for indoctrination.

No property “taxes” for “education”-—which is the business of parents ONLY. All government should be OUT of the certification/regulation business which destroyed parental control of the Minds of their own children so they could be warped and conditioned (brainwashed) by the State.

Socrates knew that State control of “schools” will never educate-—just indoctrinate. Education is KEY for Wisdom/Knowledge and civil society-—but it comes from Self (and Virtue). Socrates stated that the only thing education should do is teach Virtue.

Today’s system destroys virtue formation in young children intentionally (designed by Marxists/psychological warfare on minds of children to group and create hate for all traditions, parents and Western Cvi (Christianity)), embeds dependency and slavery and sloth and “group (non) think”-—to fear disagreeing with the masses (herd/State).

See Table 11 on page 11: http://census.gov/content/dam/Census/library/publications/2016/econ/g14-aspef.pdf

Per this year's Census Bureau report on public school financing, New Jersey schools have total per pupil revenues of $20,531, which puts it fourth nationally. This is 2014 data, the most recent available.

The big surprise is that DC, the perennial leader in this area, remained (barely) under $30,000 in total revenues per student. DC again provides the timely example that more money doesn't solve the schools' problems if the educational model is wrong.

“For those who can’t afford it, proceeds from the state lottery could help those in need.”

State lotteries do little to increase education funding Money taken in from lottery proceeds do go to education but usually a similar amount of tax revenues are removed from education and used to fund non-education items.

Good news if that is $6,599 total per student. Not so good if that is State Aid per student, and I still have to make up the difference to the $22,000+ that Newark spends per pupil. (And I assume this doesn't include any of the $100 mil that genius Zuckerberg gave them back in 2010, and has presumably been entirely pissed away by now.)

I live in the great state of New Jersey. Not all public schools are bad. They are some truly great teachers who care about the wellbeing of the children and want success and achievement. However, the core curriculum is somewhat indoctrinating. We’ll see if Christie’s education plan will work and if it passes the NJ Legislature.

It is a principle of our government(s) that no Legislature can bind a future Legislature. (Those who deal with military contracts will know that they only run through the current Congress.) It is long past time to tell the pensioners that their $100,000 a year pensions will be $20,000 and nothing if they don't agree.

This “fairness” will cut a lot of money from the crappy urban schools and give more to the schools in the neighborhoods with actual property taxpayers. It is a good thing (though I can’t see it getting through).

In NJ the difference between the money squandered on urban students is much larger than that spent on real schools with real students; the worst districts spend the most per pupil.

And they have been doing it for close to 40 years.

The Newark school system was taken over by the State in 1995. I believe they still run it, over 20 years later.

The state has to take over those districts; if they don’t you basically have tribes of gibsmedats stealing taxpayer dollars and giving out patronage jobs with it as well. Newark refuses to increase their property taxes; they insist on being maintained as wards of the state.

Interesting you brought that up; I wonder if Christie is preempting more theft (if the urban districts are to be restored to gibsmedat control) by simply reducing the amount they can steal...

The problem with school funding in New Jersey is the Teachers Union, they bribe the politicians with Union dues, to vote to increase benefits to the Teachers Union members.

If this is not illegal nothing is.

The money spent on “education” is for the bureaucracy on the kids.

All brought to you by the Democrats, Steve Sweeny head jackal.

If the urban schools are failing, cut the funding. However, every child in America can and must achieve the American dream. Period.

This is one thing that Sweden gets right: a voucher system for K-12 education. You choose which school to attend, the schools have to accept on a "first come, first served" basis, and the money goes with the kid. Poor performing schools close because no one will go there...

Well, that and bikini teams:

Totally agree....

That is going to happen as soon as Obama admits he’s a gay American hating Muslim who really wants to transgender into a female so he can claim to be the first female POTUS...
