Jimmy Cheek, the chancellor of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, is resigning to rejoin the faculty.

In a Tuesday announcement, the university praised Cheek for increased diversity at the school, record fundraising and $1 billion in new construction and renovation.

Cheek has also faced numerous challenges during his tenure. They include a lawsuit over the university's handling of sexual assault complaints and lawmaker anger that led to the defunding of the UT Office of Diversity last month.

Lawmakers had opposed the Office of Diversity's recommendations to use gender-neutral pronouns for transgender students and to avoid religious-themed holiday parties. They also opposed an annual student-run "Sex Week" event on campus.

Well, that’s certainly unusual. A university official stepping down because he was too politically correct!

That stuff won’t fly in Tennessee. OK, maybe in Nashville.

You’re right, it won’t fly in TN. At least not here in Knoxville. We came here from SoCal to escape this kind of madness.

Good riddance.

Unless said "diversity" can read, write and spell on a university level s/he will crash and burn.
I saw that first hand for three decades. The big group of "diverse" that entered college and hung out at one spot DWINDLED to half its size by midterm and a week before finals the group was ALL gone.

That group is allowed to enter where they are GUARANTEED fail. They are given NO favors by being allowed to go to a university or college without being qualified in the reading and writing category. They are SET UP to fail from the get-go.

So why did they praise him and then demote him? I don't get the this.

praised Cheek for increased diversity at the school

What does this mean exactly? How many whites are too many? Who gets to decide that?

Thank you, neighbor!

We are deliriously happy here. It’s beautiful, the people are wonderful, the city is full of growth and life and I keep hearing folks saying they don’t give a damn about political correctness.

Oh, and they put up giant billboards to advertise gun shows.

Exactly!!! Many, many hunters and fishermen in this area...
The “Great Lakes of the South” and the trout streams and forests make the area an outdoor paradise...

"They are SET UP to fail from the get-go."

So what else is new? Our children are being dumbed down even in High School. I see it all the time with on-the-street Jay-Walking type reporters who ask the simplest questions, like who was our first President? Answer, "Abreemim Lincun" or "Jimmah Cahter".
Or who invented the first flying machine?. Answer, "Ford or I don't know".
The saddest I've ever seen is who invented the light bulb? Answer, "None". WTF? What are our children being taught if not the basics in history classes.

Oops, just remembered the very worse answers to the question, "Who did the colonists fight in the revolutionary war?" I was simply astounded by the incorrect answers. "Mexico, France, and I don't know."

As usually, I try to supply solutions: Eliminate the Dept. of Education. Let the States and localities have absolute jurisdiction over the reading materials and teacher tenure (which shouldn't be forever after only 10 years). Without Fedgov funding the education districts will have to listen to parents more.

Plus, I put much of the blame on parents who just don't give a crap anymore, but still think there clueless offspring need to go to college to earn degrees in "women studies", "cultural studies", "general sociology studies" and other worthless majors.

Unless they have a pre or post graduate degree in math, engineering, computer science, business or any hard science, it's no wonder so many graduates go to work at McDonald's. And then they complain about their student loans. Of course Sanders would say it should all be free, even if they want to major in "Post Mayan Civilization" or some such made up nonsense.

Money, money, money, eh? (And more enrollments = more money!)

But they HATE capitalist pigs, don’t they?

Too many women decide to have children without marrying the father. That is a HUGE predictor for failure for the children, for BOTH son and daughter.

It starts with fornication, doesn't it? Don't ALL faiths consider fornication wrong? I THOUGHT they did. I guess I am WAY out of touch with the latest on what the young think is right and wrong.

Pope Benedict called it relative morality.

Yup, amazing how hypocritical liberals/socialists are. Peace, Love, Tranquility, Kumbaya for all...but NO Integrity (self-honesty), Honor, Truth because it interferes with their "feelings" and equal outcome rather than equal opportunity. The administrators of Harvard, Yale, Brown, et al, just want the MONEY!

I highly doubt that most teachers/professors have read the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Federalist Papers, the diaries and correspondence of the Founding Fathers and how they changed the World for the better. Those that have, write books and parse it apart in the negative.

I used to admire teachers, but now I am disgusted with our so-called educators.

Being an agnostic, I don't care about sex out of wedlock. I care about the fathers just walking away and us tax payers supporting the woman/children and the young males having no guiding principles. That also applies to the young females who turn into whores and join street gangs.

To be blunt, if they all disappeared tomorrow, I wouldn't give a sh*t! Let god sort them out. There are too many good people who deserve our hearts and resources who are not getting it.
