NRA officials split with Trump on wisdom of armed club-goers

Top National Rifle Association officials split Sunday with Donald Trump's position that armed club-goers are a good idea.

"I don't think you should have firearms where people are drinking," said Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's chief executive officer said on CBS' "Face the Nation." "But I will tell you this. Everybody, every American starts to have -- needs to start having a security plan. We need to be able to protect ourselves, because they're coming. And they're going for vulnerable spots, and this country needs to realize it."

NRA lobbyist Chris Cox told ABC's "This Week": "No one thinks that people should go into a nightclub drinking and carrying firearms. That defies commonsense. It also defies the law. It's not what we're talking about here."

That’s the crazy part of this! Advertising himself all over the Internet, calling people, for hours, yet no one could stop him.

I will mess up my Shakespeare....but it seems that something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

Responsible CCW permit holders carry in bars with no issue whatsoever
= = = = = = = = = = = = =
The ONLY place I do not carry is if there is a metal detector present.

I pay no attention to the ‘signs’, or - in some cases - what the ‘law’ is....

Concealed carry should mean just that.

I do not drink when armed, no matter what the law is.

Well, for some reason they couldn't get to the exits. I heard that someone managed to break through a wall to get to one exit and made it out safely.

We can brainstorm, but potential little evil jihadis are taking note of news accounts. One shooter easier to take out than 3 or four stationed box-style.

It just bugs me; I don't go into those places any more, not necessarily because of that. But I'd want to go in with a plan and means/improvised tool/weapon if I were to go into a soft target place again. Heck a grocery store is that but more places for cover and people usually spread out.

Damn jihadis always one step ahead of the authorities. This guy didn't show any special creativity about the whole thing and raised flags several times. So the film at the gun store was grainy. How about a vehicle description or other cameras around? Stuff like that.

I've been troubleshooting things on my pc and shoopping online with my antiquated browser, trying to do a successful backup of my hd so I can try an upgrade. This is why I put stuff off. I've been at it and on the phone off and on for 2 days now.

Gotta hit the sack.

Gun free zone will never work. If one brings a gun into a bar to kill people, no one can stop him.

“”if you allow guns in places where people are drinking and taking drugs, you’ll have a lot of people killed by drunks””

There’s a price to pay for being rid of terrorism, my friend.

As I said, a Sign is nothing without a Security Check to back it up.

Criminals have a reading Comprehension problem as well as a Civil Society problem.

Even without a gun, they could have bum rushed him or something..making all those phone calls, in fact, someone mentioned being in the bathroom at the time and heard the Jihadist say “Damn” because he had difficulty reloading his clip, HELLO that would have been the PERFECT time to rush him, but NO ONE did which doesnt make any sense. I mean if you feel you are going to die anyway at least fight for your life

OK, so somebody in the group gets to be “designated shooter”.

Imagine the wisdom of just one Pulse patron having a purse pistol?

The NRA is knee deep in the CCW boondoggle.

Ok...

...Apparently he cased the bar with very admirable precision (how does one find out if a guard is carrying concealed or not? how many guards are there? what is bar policy regarding guards carrying concealed?)— or else he took a large chance, and was at least somewhat over-prepared. His preparation would perhaps (?) seem to indicate that he was prepared for at least the possibility siege in contrast to a quick shootout.

...Or, maybe...

Maybe someone else cased the joint, and gave him the info(?)

Which would be more likely, I wonder?

I would be tempted to presume the worst if any potential antagonism might be involved (in general, not specifically anything involving weapons). The most simple way I could think of to find a bar with unarmed guards— not that I would ever have any motivation to do that— would be to have trustworthy confederates do the difficult legwork in advance. the more trustworthy confederates involved, the greater chance of success with the “goal.”

disclaimer, i am no one special and i have no insights— just curiosity.

Could not agree more!!! What exactly happened that night? Three hours of social media, etc., and no police? SWAT teams, etc., for so long?

We had heroes fight back on 9/11....why didn’t they? Well, they were unarmed.

There is something strange about this. Americans fight back.

I can’t get over that he had 3 hours to kill and nobody busted down the door and stopped him.

...the owner was running a bar with many potentially dangerous customers until the early hours of the morning in the first shall issue CC state, and yet the bar’s guards were not armed? does not the bar owner have at least a moral obligation to the safety of its patrons from armed intruders? i imagine this is discussed extensively somewhere else, and if so, i would welcome a pointer. (sorry not to be up to speed.)

Yes, they’re trying to paint the picture of saloons is the Wild, Wild West having shootouts in the saloon. All this idiocy keeps getting people killed. They don’t care about the body counts obviously except, of course, to push their gun control agenda.

That’s normal for the cops these days. Sad.
