The campaign to keep Britain in the European Union regained its lead in two opinion polls published on Saturday, giving a boost to Prime Minister David Cameron who is battling to avoid a historic "Out" vote in Thursday's referendum.

A third poll also showed a change in momentum in favor of the "In" camp and Cameron got the backing of a leading newspaper when the right-leaning Mail on Sunday urged its readers to vote to remain in the EU.

"We are now in the final week of the referendum campaign and the swing back towards the status quo appears to be in full force," Anthony Wells, a director with polling firm YouGov, said.

A clearer description of the poll is of “voting for or against the death penalty for Britain.”

Simply put, are the British people so embarrassed by the history of Britain that they think it should cease to be as a nation, like Prussia? If that is the case, they should vote to remain in the EU, where eventually they will become just another administrative district, with no unique people, or history, or culture or traditions. So many foreigners will be sent there that Britain, and England, will cease to exist.

Granted, there are many Britons that want just this. Who live in shame that there was ever a British empire, and the only way to purge the collective guilt is national suicide.

However, if there are enough Britons who believe that Britain and England are worthy as independent and free nations, that in the balance as nations and a people they did more good than evil, then they will leave the sinking ship of the EU.

But to do so they must admit that those who for a hundred years have foisted endless guilt on Britain and England, were wrong. And as an independent and strong nation, such voices no longer deserve a platform for their wails, moans and curses. That schools should once again teach the value and importance of Britain in the world, accentuating the positive instead of the negative.

Nothing like snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory -- Brexit helped the Tories not only win the election, it helped deliver an historic repudiation of Labour. So, Wavy Davy Cameron decided to back the Labour position on the UK in the EU. Well done.

Not ‘the Labour position.’ There are pro- and anti-EU factions in both Labour and Conservative parties, and have been for many years. Of the UK-wide parliamentary parties, it’s only the LibDems who ave always been solidly pro-EU. One of the ironies of the present fascinating mess is that the Labour leader, Corbyn, has been strongly anti-EU in the past, and his statements recently supporting Remain have been, let’s say, lukewarm. Meanwhile there are many who believe that Cameron is a closet Eurosceptic, but has painted himself into a corner by calling this referendum solely for Tory party internal management motives.
