Paul Ryan On Stopping Trump's Muslim Ban: We'll Sue Him!
TalkingPointsMemo ^ | 6/17/2016 | Tierney Sneed

Posted on 06/17/2016 9:03:03 AM PDT by lodi90

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) has made clear he doesn't agree with a proposal put forward by Donald Trump -- whom Ryan has endorsed -- to ban Muslim immigration into the United States, but in an interview with the Huffington Post Thursday, Ryan floated taking a President Trump to court if he tried to implement such a ban or some of his other controversial proposals unilaterally.

“I would sue any president that exceeds his or her powers,” Ryan said in a back-and-forth about Trump's claims that he could implement a Muslim ban or build a Mexican border wall without congressional approval.

Ryan said he wasn't sure of the "legal question" of whether Trump could institute a Muslim ban on his own as president.

“That’s a legal question that there’s a good debate about,” he said, citing the 1952 Immigration and Nationality Act.

"On the broader question, are we going to exert our Article I powers and reclaim this Article I power no matter who the president is? Absolutely," Ryan said. He also said he discussed the limits of the executive power with Trump.

In the interview, Ryan said his endorsement of real estate mogul did not give Trump “a blank check,” and that he was still trying to achieve "real unity" between the presumptive nominee and his caucus.

I could agree with Ryan completely were it not for the fact we've had out of control resident of the White House for over 7 years, and Congress hasn't done a thing about exerting or reclaiming Article I powers. In the absence of a history of action, I assume this is nothing more than a ploy to generate headlines. His soundbite will probably end up in a Hillary ad.

This is the job of the HOR. Not to legislate but to sue presidents and cash lobbyist checks.

Ryan is an idiot.

It’s really hard to reply to this without swearing my head off. Trump can do this legally. It’s under the President’s juristiction and it’s been talked about again and again. The fact that Ryan doesn’t know this speaks volumes.

Ryan doesn’t care. He’s telling Trump’s 13 million voteres to die in a fire. We’ve been fired by the GOP. They don’t want us.

Ryan is busy trying throw the election to Hillary and her SCOTUS picks. That is he comfortable with that is all you need to know about him.

Ryan’s challenger in WI speaks about how Ryan betrayed him and all the WI voters.

I am coming to hate Paul Ryan with a perfect hatred.

This is not a problem.

The great majority of Americans agree with Trump's ban. It makes perfect sense.

Ryan, on the other hand, with his threat of lawsuit, reminds voters why we need Trump--to straighten out the establishment on both sides of the aisle.

Ryan, wittingly or unwittingly, is keeping Trump and his muslim immigration ban in the news, front and center.

1) Trump would NOT be exceeding his powers.
Even Obama briefly suspended admitting Iraqis. Look it up.

2) Where are the lawsuits when Obama exceeds his authority every other friggin’ month???

Wisconsin, PLEASE ditch this clown!!!

A recent poll had generic congressional Republicans trailling Dems by 10 points.

Ryan is handing the house to Pelosi in a platter by acting like Jeb on a bad day. This is a very bad time to defend muslim migration.

This hurts Ryan more than it does Trump.

Paul Ryan forgets that the President is the Commander and Chief. The President’s primary obligation is to protect this country. Suing him will fail.

Don’t forget Trump lost WI. I’d bet that Ryan has polling data showing that his constant attacks on his party’s nominee are playing well with the liberal voters in his district. Screw the country! All that matters to cretins like Paul Ryan is getting re-elected!

“I would sue any president that exceeds his or her powers,” Ryan said in a back-and-forth about Trump's claims that he could implement a Muslim ban or build a Mexican border wall without congressional approval.

Where is all the lawsuit action against Obama? Ryan is a damn liar on that claim.
