The irony is that gays’ and women’s’ best hope for protection (when the crap hits the fan) will come from a “redneck” with a gun. Everyone knows that liberals won’t really defend them.

There is an enormous number of privately held guns compared to the number of shootings.
It is much more true, whether for good or for ill, that guns are for intimidating people who might - whether by size/strength or by numbers - otherwise feel no need to be accommodating or even civil. The effect of gun possession therefore more favors the weaker rather than the stronger, the few rather than the many.
Ms. Goodman should be air dropped into the wilds of Afghanistan. Upon her return, if ever, we would be sincerely interested to learn her updated views regarding both guns and Islam.
