Also remember walking along the banks of the Rio Hondo, San Gabriel, and Los Angeles Rivers; hunting quail and pheasant with a 410 shotgun in what is now Downey, Norwalk, and Lynwood.
If a cop stopped you, you knew he was just going to ask if you had any luck; and if so, where did you find the birds hanging out.
You just knew he was coming back as soon as he was off duty and get a few birds for his wife and families supper.

In the 1960’s nobody was fat. I mean nobody in my neighborhood. Rarely did you see an enormous person, nowadays you see them every where.

About slavery, it would be a losing argument. We just want to go back to a time when black children knew who their father was and they lived together in the same house. But we'll hear about how much better things are for a variety of minorities that together might comprise two percent of the population. But for the other 94% of us (Lawyers, four percent, are also better off.) things are decidedly worse.

Here's the sad thing: I realized that, too — in 1993. It's been steady downhill ever since. I pray for our nation fervently. We mustn't give up hope. I have to agree; 1964 was also the year the Kennedys started pushing through their new immigration bill that gave preference to people from the third world and discouraged people from Europe.
The Highway Beautification Act was passed in 1964 at the urging of Lady Bird Johnson. As big a boor as her husband was, she was a Southern gentle lady and contributed a lasting improvement.

I would love for my Children and Grandchildren to have the opportunity to experience some of those positive times.
I think most of Bill’s “management of the economy” was really his good fortune to be Pres during the birth of the internet and technology surge.
