Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Tuesday imposed a siege on the ISIS-held city of Manbij from three directions, after recapturing dozens of villages and farms in the vicinity of the city north of Syrias Aleppo province.
...Local sources confirmed that a large number of ISIS militants escaped the city using the western exit, and headed to Aleppo.

” The Syrian Army and the Russians are giving ISIS more attention nowadays as well”
Classic Russian playbook.
As the conflict rages, rush in to seize a strategic center and establish a military presence to fill a position of power. And never budge.
This tactic works well, notably in Kosovo where a Russian armored column raced in and seized the airport, then remained in control despite rantings.
This time they have a proxy ground force and now a significant airpower presence.
They will race to the prize. Time will tell who wins
Great call - Zoroastrianism, a once-great religion that has been made nearly extinct by the sword of islam, does not promote murder and rape and all the other bad things that islam promotes.
There used to be millions that followed Zoroastrianism, and muslims killed them all, nearly.
coincidental with the election coming up
Can’t wish any of these people away. All we can hope to do is rearrange them so that they turn inward and stagnate, like they were doing until someone discovered oil. If they turn away from the Law of the Wholely Profit, all the better.
ISIS is making a big move over the last 24 hours (Tuesday,7 June).
They have called off their offensive against the Turkish-backed rebels in Azaz and Marea; to reinforce their main (but still small) cities of Manbij, Al Bab, and Raqqa.
Some reinforcements have been picked off in movement. The higher ups in ISIS are evacuating to safer positions (and may flee the country), while the low level guys are sent to the front lines and strongholds.
Manbij, Al Bab, and Raqqa will likely be ISIS’ last major stands in Syria. We may soon see them abandoning the countryside villages wholesale, to fortify these strongholds. A good bit of that occurred as the SDF advanced toward Manbij.
Weasly Clark almost managed to start World War III but the Brits basically told him to pound sand. In the end, however, the US was able to keep Kosovo safe for Muslim terrorists.
Why wasn’t the escape route to Aleppo sealed off by commando ambush teams?
You never give the enemy a way out unless you want to follow them to another target and then hit them.
“Why wasnt the escape route to Aleppo sealed off by commando ambush teams?”
Small, isolated teams would be very vulnerable in the open terrain - unlikely to survive long. Airstrikes have interdicted some ISIS on the highway West, but most blended in with refugee flow.
Reports today that ISIS has evacuated their main headquarters in Manbij. Manbij has been under increased air attack today, so they may be moving to bunkers. Some or all of the brass may have left. It is just about the last chance - the last roads will be cut soon, unless a major relief force can be mustered.
Meanwhile, the ISIL hackers claim to have over 8,000 people on their kill list in the US, Canada, and Australia.
What prize? Eliminating Sunni Moslem jihadis is a prize for everyone who isn’t a Sunni Moslem
Not a wish - a strategy. Iranis are already among the least religious Moslems and most consider the Ayatollahs as “not ours” (though they have not real explanation) — and they see it clearly how the Moslem world rejects them. We should have a concentrated effort to push them to the next logical step - “Moslems don’t consider us true Moslems, but we are defeating them, so let’s get rid of this Arab yoke”

Let it be as you say, insh’allah;-)
This is true, and has been true for decades, which is why the entire world was surprised when Iran of all places was taken over by Islamist clerics.
Elsewhere in the Muslim world, you have instability because of secular governments ruling over Islamist populations (Algeria, Egypt, Syria, etc). In Iran, it's mostly the reverse.
That road from Manbij to Aleppo (M4), the last highway out of the city, is now cut.
The ISIS Emir of Manbij, Usama al-Tunisi, was killed yesterday trying to make it out on that road.
The last three miles of countryside will probably be secured today, to complete the encirclement.
Hello Bo. Thanks for the good news. If you watch tv news and even most cable tv news, you wouldn’t know that a war is going on over there.
Glad to hear that al-Tunisi had a fatal traffic accident. Probably caught texting while driving, a death penalty offense in the M.E.
One other poster said that commando teams wouldn’t last long in the desert (ie. for spotting enemy conveys/vehicles, etc, calling in air support, artillery fire, etc).
I think our teams are well equipped for desert commando raids and intell observations. Their camouflage is great as are their weapons and communications systems. Plus they would have artillery and air support if they got attacked.
Now, I’m going back months and years in my posts re the value of the Harrier jet, which the US is basically phasing out. It is a jump-jet as well as runway takeoff plane. If you hide them behind small hills and sand mounds in the desert (with a protective unit and/or command unit), they could instantly attack any enemy convey or even foot force that came their way. Otherwise you have to wait for any airborne craft to come if they are not already in the vicinity.
That is why a Harrier jet is so valuable for desert warfare, as is the wonderful A-10 warthogs.
Our Air Force leaders are the dumbest I’ve ever seen or heard. tried to cover the 5 o’clock follies at the Pentagon but after the first one, during the VN war, I left, walking out of the room with Gen. Chappie James. When I mentioned how half-assed that conference had been, he smiled with that big grin of his as if to say, “Yeah, most of it is bullshit”. Chappie knew how to smile.
And to make it worse, I was seated next to Bob Schaeffer, CBS, NBC, ABC, or the BS network.
Got better briefing in Nam and Cambodia.
I have full faith in the American military fighter and commanders at the lower levels, and even some at Sentcom, AfriCom, etc. but when you get up to the top, we have the stupidest leaders, both military and civilian (Ashton Carter, the Secy of Air Force, former head of JCS Gen. Dempsey, Secy of the Navy, the flaming idiot Mabus, and the generals/admirals who sale on the ship the U.S.S. Political Correct Crapper.
Meanwhile, in the real world, our guys are killing our enemies and being killed by our enemies while being betrayed here at home.
Something is tragically wrong with America, and it starts in the Red House.
ISIS is counterattacking the SDF around Manbij from the West.
Better to fight them in the open, where they are vulnerable to air.
Separately, the ISIS “capital” of Sirte in Libya, fell today to the US-Backed GNA Militia from Misrata.
Libya was their “Plan B” if ejected from Syria and Iraq. That got wiped out over the last three weeks, and with it, a major source of oil revenue.
