Trump to surrogates: Don’t back down from criticizing judge, journalists ("Those are the racists")

Donald Trump urged his supporters during a Monday conference call to defend his controversial accusation that a federal judge is unfit to rule in a Trump University fraud case because of his Hispanic heritage, Bloomberg reported.

Trump was defiant, despite the rash of criticism he's faced from Republicans and Democrats alike, according to a description of the call to Bloomberg by two supporters who participated.

"We will overcome," Trump said. "And I’ve always won and I’m going to continue to win. And that’s the way it is."

He went on to declare that his surrogates should specifically target journalists who are bringing up the issue.

"The people asking the questions — those are the racists," Trump added. "I would go at 'em."

When former Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, a Trump supporter, told the presumptive GOP presidential nominee that the campaign's surrogate handler specifically emailed about steering clear of the controversy, Trump bristled.

"Take that order and throw it the hell out," he said, repeatedly demanding to know who sent the memo, Bloomberg reported. When told the memo was sent by Erica Freeman, a staffer who sends information to surrogates, Trump said he didn't know her, Bloomberg reported.

"Are there any other stupid letters that were sent to you folks? … That's one of the reasons I want to have this call, because you guys are getting sometimes stupid information from people that aren't so smart."

Trump has repeatedly questioned Judge Gonzalo Curiel, arguing that his Mexican heritage makes him biased in the case because of Trump's plan to build a border fence along the Mexican border.

Instead of walking that back, he doubled down over the weekend, floating the prospect that a Muslim judge might be similarly biased against him and unfit to preside in a case he's involved in.

Recently a court threw out the murder conviction of a black man because the jury had been white.

What is the difference between that and what Trump is saying here?

The judge MUST recuse himself due to his La Raza affiliation.

I've supported Trump throughout the primaries (I would also have been fine with Cruz), and I plan to vote for Trump in the general. The main reason I support Trump is his pledge to build a border fence and man it. But I'm not comfortable with this - is Trump's only objection to this judge the fact that he's Hispanic? Has he said or done anything to give Trump the impression that he's not able to rule fairly?

That's just a damned lie. Trump is against the judge because the judge is a member of a racist organization (La Raza) that is based on hating Trumps race!

Giving the racists a little taste of their own medicine.

I like it. A lot. A whole lot.

I wasn't aware of this. I am aware of La Raza and it's detestable views. If the judge is a member of La Raza, Trump definitely has reasons for concern of getting a fair hearing.

You could look it up. Right on FR, but since you're too lazy THE JUDGE IS A MEMBER OF LA RAZA, WHICH MEANS "THE RACE," SPECIFICALLY HISPANIC, WHICH IS NOT A RACE.

What would call someone who belongs to a racist organization called "The Race?"

” Has he said or done anything to give Trump the impression that he’s not able to rule fairly?”

Have you read anything about the case? The main plaintiff turns out to have praised Trump University, in writing, and Trump can provide that backup. So the prosecutors now want to change the plaintiff, since their whole case has been undercut. In any other case, it would have been dismissed, but not this one. Why? Because this case is supposed to be dragged out, intentionally, and they have a compliant judge to help.

It’s clear what’s going on. This judge is political, that is, not making rulings on the law, but on politics. He’s associated with La Raza and should recuse himself. But he won’t.

Sotomayor ran all over D.C. during the run up to her appointment bragging to anyone who would listen to her about how great her "wise Latina" perspective was going to be in helping her decide cases.

That must not count huh?

So why isn’t Trump capable of plainly saying that? He should have focused on that (the la raza connection) and that alone from the beginning. He should have never called the judge a Mexican.

What if you are Afro-American and you had a civil litigation going on with a judge that was a member of the Aryan brotherhood. And it seemed to you that the judge was continually siding against your case in favor of the white complainant, would you asked the judge to recuse himself from the case?

Is Donald Trump done anything different in asking a judge that is a member of the Raza, ever much a racist organization as the Aryan brotherhood, to recuse himself from his case?
