Florida weather can be scary at times when you aren't used to it. As the old saying goes, if you don't like Florida weather, wait fifteen minutes and it will change.

Fortunately, we are getting occasional breaks in the rain, allowing brief relief opportunities for the dogs. We've topped 5" of rain thus far in our coastal location. Rain guage shows 3" in the past several hours, added to 2.3" by 0700 today.

I’m in Arcadia. The heavy rain began here about 45 minutes ago. Several more hours to go. Wind 15 and gusty. Great afternoon nap weather but I’m at work.

It is wrong to give Tropical Storms and Hurricanes names. This is very stressful to people who have the same name give to them. I had a friend who could not use her give first name for several years. I took 6 months before she would talk to her parents. She choose to go by Wendy instead. She felt that no one could be so instinctive as to name a storm “Wendy”. I told her that they have never used names starting with Q, U, X, Y, Z. You would think in our overly political correct society the would have already been addressed.

Numbers have problems too! What if the number matched something in your life. The number in line at the dry cleaners or the floor you work or live on. Irrational numbers might be a solution but they would take the news media too long to say them and people would die because they didn’t evacuate in time.

Some days I like to self identify as the number one plus the square root of five divided by two. But for now I don’t need to fear this happening.

I'm watching Buoy SGOF1 which is about 50 miles from Colin's reported center as of 4:00 CDT. The buoy reported a high windspeed of 36 m.p.h. at that time. It's hard to reconcile the report of this buoy with the statement that "tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 230 miles".

The location of T.S. Colin hasn't been reported recently, but we can infer that it is pretty much due south of Buoy SGOF1 since the buoy is reporting winds coming from due east (88-90 degrees). Even though T.S. Colin is getting closer to Buoy SGOF1, its reported windspeeds have declined quite a bit to 25 m.p.h.

When you have it all figured out, will you help us pick up the tree branches, twigs and leaves that have littered our street, driveway, and swimming pool?

Nauti ... Only 31 m.p.h. winds in Tampa. Have you seen anywhere report tropical storm force winds yet? The NHC says T.S. Colin has 50 m.p.h. winds.

This is a goofy storm. The wind field is really displaced SE from the estimated center of circulation. We had hoped the winds would have passed by now. Multiple power surges. Rainfall at 6 inches. We're ready for a break. The dogs are ready for a break.

I agree it's a goofy storm. It may not even be a tropical storm. At 7:00 p.m. the center of T.S. Colin was reported to be 10 miles from Buoy SGOF1, yet the buoy reported only 23 m.p.h winds at that time.

That map produced by the NHC is simply not credible.

You are an idiot who turns your complete lack of knowledge about tropical storm systems into
conspiracy theories. Do not post to this thread.

We're getting closer to tropical storm strength at 36 m.p.h., Nauti. My theory is that the NHC reports windspeeds that are actual windspeeds + 10-15 m.p.h. Since the NHC reports 50 m.p.h., we may find a location with a brief observation of minimal tropical storm force winds if we keep looking.

Why is looking for windspeeds a conspiracy theory? I honestly don't understand your point of view.

Oops! I didn’t notice that your graph was knots! T.S. Colin has 41 m.p.h. winds. In line with my theory. I also notice that the Fred Howard Park station is way out a manmade causeway. Since I count barrier islands as land-based stations, I’ll count the FHP station as land based, too.

And I don't understand why you are such an idiot conspiracy theorist. Start your own NHC
conspiracy thread. Don't spoil this thread for everyone who is looking for information.
Stop the madness.
