By now you’ve probably heard about Katie Couric’s new anti-gun documentary “Under The Gun,” and how her producer doctored video of interviews with gun owners in order to make them look stupid and heartless. Couric’s producer and director, Stephanie Soechtig, admitted to doctoring the video, and Couric herself kinda sorta apologized for it.
But that’s not the worst thing that happened with the making of this documentary. It turns out that Couric’s production team deliberately conspired to violate federal gun laws. According to video obtained by Ammoland, a shooting sports news website, one of Couric’s producers deliberately committed at least four separate felonies by purchasing four separate firearms across state lines without a background check.

This is bullshit. Under Federal law, it’s not illegal to cross state lines to purchase a firearm from a non-licensed (non-FFL) seller without a background check (though a state could have laws that make that illegal under state law).
It IS, however, illegal:
1. To SHIP a firearm across state lines to someone who is not a licensed FFL.
2. For an FFL to directly sell a handgun to a non-licensed person in another state whether that person crosses state boundaries to receive the gun or not.
For example, assuming no Wyoming state prohibition, I could legally drive from Colorado to Wyoming and purchase any legal firearm from a private individual in Wyoming and bring the gun back to Colorado WITHOUT background check. I could also drive to Wyoming and purchase a long gun from a licensed Wyoming FFL with background check and drive that long gun back to Colorado. I cannot drive to Wyoming and legally purchase a handgun from a Wyoming FFL under any circumstance (though if that were to occur, it’s the FFL that would be breaking the law, not me)

I think she has an unlimited hildabeast signature series “get outta jail free” card. I think it extends to the producer as well. So, little people, sit down and shut up.

A federal district court in Dallas, Texas, ruled that the ban on interstate sales of handguns is unconstitutional. That case is being appealed.
How often the ban is enforced is uncertain.

I’m curious how the law was broken. Did a licensed dealer not do a background check or was this through a private seller. If the licensed dealer didn’t do a background check then the licensed violated the law. If it was a private sell a background check may not be required.

Wrong, you can only purchase a long gun in another state from a licensee, AT his licensed premises.
Please show me that law. Is it a CO law or a Federal law?
And there’s your trouble. The laws are so convoluted that you can’t be sure you’re not violating something. And you can be good to go in your home state but commit felonies by simply crossing a state line. Free men shouldn’t have to be burdened in that way.

I collect Browning Hi-Powers. Colt Pistols, Winchester rifles along with pre 64 Winchester bolt rifles. Some were auctions and some were private sellers. At the auctions a background check was required but I’ve never had to do a background on a private sell unless it was required by the state.
How does that apply to a private sell, be very specific please.
Depending on what the seller knew about the buyers, he may be on the hook, as well.
If those were handguns and the transaction was not in your home state, I'm not sure that was legal.
