Chief Justice John Roberts: 'I Try to Achieve as Much Consensus as I Can'

U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts said Wednesday that building a consensus among the justices is important, although he admits he can’t do it on his own.

Roberts’ comments at The Greenbrier resort in West Virginia come as the justices have struggled to reach decisions in several cases this term with the court split evenly between conservative and liberal members. The court has had eight members since the February death of Justice Antonin Scalia.

“I try to achieve as much consensus as I can,” Roberts said. “We kind of have to have a commitment as a group. I think we spend a fair amount of time &— maybe a little more than others in the past — talking about things, talking them out. It sometimes brings you a bit closer together.” …

Harvard Law School-indoctrinated, state sovereignty-ignoring Chief Justice Roberts doesn’t seem to understand that his job is to apply the Constitution as the Founding States had intended for the Constitution to be understood, particularly with respect to the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers and state sovereignty.

"Consensus" means capitulating to Democrats.

Requiring “consensus” means that the most obstinate member wins.

I thought each Justice was supposed to consider the legal merits of the case independently, render an opinion, and the majority opinion would be written. There isn’t supposed to be a meeting where they reach “consensus.”

Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

Consensus?

Hear Thomas Jefferson:

“The judiciary of the United States is the subtle corps of sappers and miners constantly working under ground to undermine the foundations of our confederated fabric. They are construing our constitution from a co-ordination of a general and special government to a general and supreme one alone. This will lay all things at their feet, and they are too well versed in English law to forget the maxim, ‘boni judicis est ampliare jurisdictionem’ [good judges have ample jurisdiction]. . . . A judiciary independent of a king or executive alone, is a good thing; but independence of the will of the nation is a solecism, at least in a republican government.” (Letter to Thomas Ritchie, Dec. 25, 1820)

Consensus eventually becomes “Groupthink”.

Perhaps but "groupthink" exists everywhere and anywhere including this site. There are lots of sheep that will adapt their views to that of the loudest of the group so they feel they can fit in. Nothing new.

Consensus is compromise. The whole purpose of the Supreme Court is to not compromise. They're supposed to use their wisdom to determine if what's before them is or is not Constitutional.

Consensus is for legislators to put together solutions that will address the situation in front of them in the best way possible. It's up to the courts to determine if that consensus they reached is lawful.

Geeesh....is Roberts really this far down the slippery slope?

You're a fool, Roberts.

And for all your academic "achievements" you are a very stupid man.

The TRUTH has nothing to do with consensus! This fool should know better, and if he doesn’t, he ought to be removed as Cheif.

Ah yes, the famous hidden Consensus clause of the Constitution. Where you are forced at the barrel of a musket to consensus with the King.

Consensus is a Marxist term meant to deny the existence of dissent. Is Robert a closet communist?

Talk of climate de iers emerges directly from these terms such as bilartisanship and consensus. It is a most dangerous cultist thing.

Roberts need to follow the law, not the consensus

Given that he talked of consensus a decade ago, I don’t know about “closet”. I have been wondering just what his conservative credentials were supposed to be.

The TRUTH has nothing to do with consensus! This fool should know better, and if he doesn’t, he ought to be removed as Cheif.

Reminds me of an old study:

TRUTH is crucified at the place of the poll.

John 19:15-18

15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.
16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.
17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.

skull:

1115 Golgotha {gol-goth-ah'}
of Aramaic origin [cf 01538];; n pr loc
AV - Golgotha 3; 3

Golgotha = "skull"

01538 gulgoleth {gul-go'-leth}
by reduplication from 01556; TWOT - 353l; n f
AV - poll 7, scull 2, every man 2, head 1; 12

1) head, poll, skull
1a) skull
1b) head, poll (of census)

It says what we already know: TRUTH is crucified at the place of the consensus, or at the polling booth as it were.

Explains why lying pols refer to our Republic as a democracy. Mob rule, mob decisions: "Crucify him, crucify him."

The TRUTH has nothing to do with consensus!
