What I discovered as a pro-gun-control member of the NRA (beyond barf alert)
Chicago Tribune ^ | 29 may 2016 | Charles M. Madigan

If the Republicans had nominated a skunk in the contest against Hillary Clinton, the National Rifle Association would have heartily embraced the odoriferous Mr. Stinky.

A week ago, the NRA, which has millions of members and is eager to target congressional races in which guns are an issue, endorsed Donald Trump for president. He spoke, of course.

Hand in the air for emphasis, he told the NRA that Clinton would try to "abolish" the Second Amendment. How does one "abolish" anything in the Constitution? It takes many steps. It's not going to happen.

But that doesn't matter. It was what the NRA's Louisville audience wanted to hear, and, true to form, Trump delivered. In fact, almost any Republican presidential candidate could have delivered to that audience.

They have a rather interesting comment section. Unfortunately when it is not closed to new comments it requires you to get a subscription to post. I wanted to post THIS cartoon from the same CHICAGO TRIB from the 1930s.

If anyone can post to the Chicago Trib feel free to post this cartoon there.

I wonder what Madigan uses for “home protection”???

Probably a silent alarm system that wouldn’t “frighten” his kids...Or he depends on 911...

Either way, he is a complete fool.....

************************

By ignoring it.

The Constitution says only a natural born citizen may be President and yet we have a self-admitted Brithish subject in office.

The fine print shows it to be “hours and minutes”.

One shooting, for example, every two hours and 24 minutes.

“It was like, well, a setup.” It was a set up. The author of the story is a plant, joined the NRA so he could trash it. And you can’t comment on the story unless you subscribe to their trashy propaganda rag... Every time I clicked the box to write something I got a subscribe prompt page.

Madigan has been writing this kind of BS for years, he’s one of the reasons I dropped my local area news papers.

I live in Wheeling, IL. Eight years ago, I sent a gun rights letter to the editors of the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times. Only the Sun-Times printed it. I said that city gun bans don’t decrease shootings, since criminals get guns from other towns, bring them to Chicago, and shoot people, knowing that the law-abiding people can’t defend themselves. In 1960, about 5% of American babies were born out of wedlock. In 1990, the percentages were 60%, for Blacks; 30%, for Hispanics; and 25%, for Whites. When one parent raises a child, it’s difficult to teach good morals, especially since many single mothers work two jobs to survive. When teenagers aren’t supervised, well, that causes many of them to become criminals, causing them to shoot someone and/or got shot. More Americans should ensure that they won’t have children until they’re married. More fathers should spend more time with their kids and pay child support.

>The government has already pretty much made the 4th amendment obsolete and will continue chipping way until all liberty is gone.

Correction: the 4th is pretty much suppressed/trampled/usurped; buggy-whips are obsolete. Liberty, gone....that’s what govts DO. “Like fire...” as the quote goes.

>The author of the story likely doesn’t care about the truth.

The author was never out for the TRUTH. One only need read the 2nd vs. ‘laws’ today and see a clear, present and every-growing infringement.
