This is an American tragedy: Republicans must step up and defeat Donald Trump
It's time for honest Republicans to speak out against this dangerous, unprincipled vulgarian. Who has the courage?
Seán Patrick Donlan
As a Democrat, part of me delights in the opportunities provided by the coming elections. With Trump at the top of the Republican ticket, Democrats might just might find themselves not only with the presidency, but in control of the Senate. But the state of our politics is so grave that its difficult to derive much joy out of the situation. Like others on both sides of the aisle, I already feel tainted by Trumps rank tribalism and childish tantrums. But if he drags all of us into his petulant winner-takes-all mentality, he might, even in defeat, achieve a kind of victory. This may do him little good personally, but it does our politics considerable harm. Even a sound, publicly partisan Democratic victory may normalize his cheap sexism and fragile insecurity, his Know-Nothing nativism and racism, and his easy toleration of violence in the campaign and in the world.
Trump is not merely a Republican dilemma, but an American tragedy. Ideally, conservatives would acknowledge their role in enabling his candidacy, in moving the boundaries of acceptable rhetoric so far from reason that he can lie indiscriminately without fear of correction by journalists anxious for their next story. But more immediately, Republicans must find ways to defend their principles without capitulation to a vulgarian seemingly without principles of any sort. Trump deserves more than defeat by my party. He and his enthusiasts and enablers must be publicly, popularly shamed by all citizens who see him as a political cancer.

The GOPe Republicans are not just against Trump but the American People. One day they will feel the wrath of the American People.
Would ye look at this now, he’s posting his drivel all the way from the Emerald Isle, at the University of Limerick.
Surely, he’s been into the Jamesons this fine morning. Thank you for the sage advice, me lad, we know ye mean only the best for us.
;^)
Translation: how can we stop him and get a spineless RINO to run in his place?
I love liberals telling me we need to dump Trump because he’s dangerous.
But then they can’t stand Hillary’s lies.
I admit its something of a dilemma - but its not my obligation to solve it for them.
When he is POTUS he will put on his structural engineering hat and re-build and reinforce the foundation of our once great nation.
>>I already feel tainted by Trumps rank tribalism
Trump’s tribe is the American tribe. This offends Progressives.
On the other hand, Obama’s tribe is a subset of America. His tribalism is actual tribalism and Progressives call that courageous.

>>Why post this crap? Why?
To show the utter depravity of the Left. To remind us that squabbling over details is counter-productive because these people will gladly send us to a gulag for our “counter-revolutionary thought”. Finally, to prepare us for the day when we may have to look at these people across our front sight and forget that they were once our fellow countrymen.
The gravity is not that an outsider is violating the status quo of the chosen ones.
The gravity is that the country is a mess and the government is dysfunctional.
The University of the South Pacific in Vanuatu? Wow. Talk about inconsequential and irrelevant.
>>They see a huge defeat heading their way.....<<

The days when Americans just eat the globalist crap are OVER.
Millions of Americans have awakened from a comatose state, and realized our nation has been silently occupied by a foreign power—international interests, international banking, crony-globalist corporations and media, and a nascent world government whose outlines can be seen in the WTO, the BIS, the U.N., the World Court, the IMF, NATO and many other institutions which are ABSOLUTELY BEYOND THE CONTROL of WE THE PEOPLE.
Much of this has followed the direct playbook of Fabian socialism—but I do not see that as the main enemy. I think socialism is a tool for destroying America.
IT DID NOT WORK.
We are shining the light on the evil, and the vile, diseased rats cannot stand it.
America stands as one of the the last obstacles against a global order, along with nationalists who are also awakening in the U.K. and other countries. BUT AMERICA IS THE BASTION OF FREEDOM. If a world order prevails, it will last 1,000 years, because their will be no outside forces—i.e., no allies for patriots to turn to.
Check it out. All successful revolutions have allies from outside their countries. If the global order succeeds, such potential allies will no longer exist.
The past 8 years have been an American tragedy.
I see lib heads doing the same thing, more and more closer to the election, with the smoke letting out the ears.
With the Rats it's always big city politics gone national. Hire your brother-in-law (or brother), strip department resources via extortion, and hand out a couple of bucks and a turkey to the morons who voted for you. Spend your public time spouting nonsense and inventing sister cities in "Palestine" while decrying the mistreatment of minorities that can't get jobs because of a culture you fostered and city policies that make it suicide for businesses to locate in your city.
Democrat party leaders know deep down in their yarbles that Trump is going to convert a whole lot of their flock to vote for him when the campaign gets into full swing and their media censorship apparatus blows up in their faces. Diamond and Silk are the tip of the iceberg.
The articles is full of quotes from George Will, Bill Kristol, Ross Douthat - in other words, the vanishing #NeverTrump crowd.
You know, the Weekly Standard-National Review crew whose record of political punditry is exactly zero. I was amused to read NRO begged Mittens to run to stop Trump.
Yup, Vichy Republicans are going to save the Republic for Hillary Clinton. They’ve found no takers.
Above all, Trump’s rise isn’t an American tragedy; its an American opportunity.
To Make America Great Again.
No, Pajama Sean, not an American tragedy (oh, the emotions the makes one feeeeel...), simply the socialist queer minority losing in a capitalist hetero nation.
Gonna have to pull your pants up and actually work and pay your own way pretty soon, son. And hear a lot more people tell you when you’re doing wrong things.
“Acceptable rhetoric.” We are quite far down the road towards the totalitarian concepts of hate speech and state-approved politics.
Thank you for your excellent translation work...
