Barack Obama on Friday paid tribute to the "silent cry" of the 140,000 people killed by the world's first atomic bomb attack and sought to renew attention in his unfulfilled vision of a world without nuclear weapons, as he became the first sitting U.S. president to visit Hiroshima.
"Death fell from the sky and the world was changed," Obama said, after laying a wreath, closing his eyes and briefly bowing his head before an arched monument in Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park that honors those killed on Aug. 6, 1945, when U.S. forces dropped the bomb that ushered in the nuclear age. The bombing, Obama said, "demonstrated that mankind possessed the means to destroy itself."

This was Obama’s Invictus, he is telling the country that elected him twice, he is unchanged, unmoved, unhumbled, unlearned, unrepentant and unbearably proud of himself. He sees himself as unconquered by any belief other than in himself. He is very proud of what he did.
If only death fell from the sky at that particular moment.

After reading the book “Unbroken,” it removed any question of whether it was necessary from my mind. These people were savages, imagine Isis with heavy weapons, planes and ships! And they were not going to give up, the whole of Japan was committed and practically every household was sewing uniforms or producing other military equipment. The only unfortunate thing is that we didn’t drop the bomb sooner.
The two atom bombs SAVED Japan.
One million Allied casualties were projected for the land invasion of Japan.
Many of these men would have been our fathers and grandfathers.
At least five million dead Japanese would have been the result, and the complete ruination of their country.
And when you think about it, after Hiroshima, they still would not give up—so Nagasaki is completely on them.
They were fortunate we were the enemy. The Soviets would have demolished them. We saved them from that fate as well.

As America celebrates Memorial Day, odumbo’s speech loses its impact. Ask yourself, Who actually started WWII which caused so many of those deaths on BOTH sides?
It certainly “pays off well” when you start a war with America, look at what Japan looks like today after American people’s money rebuilt it.
As younger generations come along, they only see current news and lack perspective on events like Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
If you ever find yourself dealing with a fool who claims the atomic bombings were wrong, always begin by googling the Potsdam Declaration and asking said fool if they have ever read it. 99% of the time (in my experience) they will never have even heard of it.
So then you can read it to them word for word. It’s not that long of a document and it’s language is succinct and almost simplistic:

The declaration was issued in late July, and the japs had 2 weeks to consider it carefully. Where I come from, we call this “fair warning”. Ignoring fair warning can come with some pretty nasty consequences, and those who ignored our fair warning bear all of the responsibility for what happened.
I can tell you, any fool who still says we acted improperly after reading the declaration will at least know they are a fool, even if they won’t admit it to you.....

Reminds me of an OLD MAD MAGAZINE cartoon from fifty years ago in which FDR bows and apologizes to the Emperor of Japan because Jap pilots flying overhead, suffered ear damage from American ships blowing up at Pearl Harbor.
