Donald Trump May Debate Bernie Sanders After All
Time ^ | May 26, 2016 | Sam Frizell

It would have been a debate to remember: Two New Yorkers who couldn’t be more different, one a white-haired socialist and the other a golden-maned capitalist, sparring angrily in California like two customers at a dry cleaner’s.

* snip *

But it is not to be, of course. Trump was joking on the show, and sources confirmed to TIME that no debate will occur.

I hope this report is wrong. It would be an ENORMOUS mistake for Trump to pass this opportunity up.

By the way, The Guardian is reporting the same thing: The Trump camp is calling the debate offer just a joke.

Trump talked rather seriously about it just now.

He said he wanted to raise $10 million or so for women’s health.

LOL: Think this guy isn’t going to draw women in.

I think it was not a good idea. It would hazard him against an opponent most unlikely to be the nominee. He could only loose and Bernie could only gain.

Trump needs to learn that the President’s ability to joke like this is very limited. He needs to be taken seriously. I’m reminded of Reagan’s statement about “I’ve signed legislation that outlaws the USSR. The bombing begins in five minutes.”

He wasn’t totally joking.

Time must be one of those “dishonest media” types. Trump, from his own mouth, on live TV, is looking forward to debating Bernie. Time is out of time.

I think that honestly, it won’t happen mostly because the DNC will put their foot down as the debate would be an hours long commercial for Donald Trump and against Hillary.

Good. A Trump-Sanders debate would be bad for Hillary, regardless of who won. So perhaps the previous "joke" reports were just a feign, meant to keep Hillary off-balance.

Trump can make his own decisions...i hope he decides to do it. Gentlemanly debate between these two would be great!

The DNC will put its food down...

Yeah. Just like they have with recent state elections and caucus delegates that have been stolen from Bernie.

Saunders and Trump should do it. It's a giant step to making the elitists of both parties irrelevant.

MSNBC reported that they're going to try to set it up. See HERE. It might be entertaining and would be a huge poke in Hillary's eye but I'm not sure it would be that great an idea otherwise...

He could only loose and Bernie could only gain.

Not necessary, the fix was in from the beginning, Bernie is never going to be the nominee

Many Bernie voters are quite furious about this, and if Trump plays it right he could make it easier for many Bernie voters who would surely watch the debate to vote for him over the witch.

**He could only loose (sic) and Bernie could only gain.**

If you have better ideas than your opponent, like Trump does vs. Sanders, you win every time you have an opportunity to present them.

I agree with your take on it.

However, can’t help laughing at the tweaking Hillary will be suffering due to the talk of it.

Yes, your thoughts are reasoned... I agree.

It might not be a good idea but would be fascinating. Does Trump attack Hillary and Bernie tries to defend her? Does Bernie attach Hillary and Trump pile on? So many juicy bylines.

They’ll be talking past each other, rather than debating.

It will take Hillary’s blood pressure a week to come back down.

What did he mean when he said that the Keystone Pipeline would be approved if the government got “a piece of the profit”? A specific tax directed at the company’s involved? Or that certain regulations would be waived in exchange for payment of a fee?

I heard him say it and it passed by before it dawned on me I should have been listening closer. I’m doing other things while I listen.

I didn’t catch the exact idea. I lean away from government taking funds. I suspect the government will get funds somewhere along the line already, so I’m not sure what he has in mind.

These things come and go. I start to get upset, and then a few days later I hear more and I don’t find it objectionable.

Trump gets government over-reach better than most. He’s addressing issues we haven’t had address from the top since Reagan.

We’ll see how it goes.

Read the article again, it has been updated.

The Trump campaign now says they are considering it seriously, since this article was originally posted.
