Venezuela is in the midst of a stunning social, political, and economic collapse. The country of 30 million people is facing dire food and medicine shortages, frequent power outages, serious political unrest, the world’s highest inflation rate, rampant violent crime, and one of the world’s highest murder rates. Earlier this month, Venezuela’s president, Nicolás Maduro, declared a state of emergency.

Was it a “dream” of Venezuelans or just the Venezuelan government?

Venezuela was a socialist country before Chavez, and had the resulting economic problems. Chavez convinced them that their problems were caused by not-enough-socialism and that their economy should be run by him. Purer, more corrupt socialism was what he promised and what he delivered, and drove Venezuela into the dirt.

He died, and his deputy has tried to stay true to the vision, delivering even more socialism and even more corruption, and the result is what you see.

If you punish the productive, you get less stuff. It’s not complicated.

Actually, sadly, it was a dream of Venezuelans. I remember his original coup attempt, and the enthusiasm with which they looked to him to solve all their problems.

He was a rock star from that day forward. For them, yes, he destroyed the country, but he meant well. And he really loved the poor.

When toilet paper is a luxury, you have achieved Socialism.

One brand of toilet paper is better than many.

Zero brands of toilet paper is better than one.

The collapse commenced the moment they chose the Chavista socialist path. It was inevitable. Socialism consumes EVERYTHING!

There was some tool, a professor (shocking), who recently claimed on Fox Business News that Venezuela is collapsing because the government after Chavez went away from implementing his policies. Then the hag cited a bunch of stats about how life was so good for the poor under Hugo. Seriously, what's wrong with these people? Yeah, when you take all the money and start handing out checks to people, it's going to look great for them for a few years. Then what, after the money starts running dry? You get Greece, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. Why is that such a hard concept for them to grasp?
