Ex-McDonald’s CEO says raising the minimum wage will help robots take jobs
The Washington Post ^ | May 25, 2016 | Matt McFarland

A former McDonald’s chief executive has warned that raising the minimum wage will spur unemployment as companies will instead employ robots that work for less.

“I guarantee you if a $15 minimum wage goes across the country you’re going to see a job loss like you can’t believe,” said Edward Rensi in an appearance on Fox Business Network Tuesday. “It’s cheaper to buy a $35,000 robotic arm than it is to hire an employee who’s inefficient making $15 an hour bagging French fries.”

The minimum wage has been a hot topic this spring, with some states and employers deciding to up their minimum wage to $15 an hour in the coming years. California will raise its minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2022. New York City will get to $15 an hour within three years.

It’s not rocket sicience.

The federal government KILLS JOBS AND BUSINESS.

- minimum wage - forces higher business costs, forcing less work staff and higher prices and eventually sending business outside America.

- regulations - dead-end, costly nonsense that results in the same thins as minimum wage

- federal protection of unions - do we really have to spell it out? Same result as minimum wage

-high taxes - most seem to get this one.

Tariffs fix nothing. Getting rid of this crap and other unconstitutional federal acts FIXES the problem.

Yeah, but after liberal people start having sex with robots, they’ll be the first to demand minimum wage for those mechas.... Not to mention voting rights (after they’ve been properly programmed, of course).

1). Robots don’t need baths
2). Robots don’t cop an attitude
3). They always get the order right.
4). They’re punctual.

I don’t see the downside.

Robots don’t spit in your food.

Robots don’t ask you to repeat your order for the third time.

I saw in a new Burger King by me that, as an option, you can order from touchscreens for a small discount.

But the mouthy young woman employee picketing at McDonald’s told CNN that she doesn’t care if they replace her with a robot because “there are plenty low-wage jobs I can get.” Are they all clueless???

I like the sound of that. I’ll order from the touchscreen. But what are we going to do with millions of Americans with no skills?

All the do-gooders who support $15 an hour minimum wage will:

1) Complain about the high cost of fast food

2) Complain about the increase in crime in places where the cost of fast food goes down but unemployment goes up

And the money to design, build, program and maintain those robots will be great.

"...said Edward Rensi...It’s cheaper to buy a $35,000 robotic arm than it is to hire an employee who’s inefficient making $15 an hour bagging French fries."

A "robotic arm" for bagging fries? Heh. Where would such a piece of work be designed--Italy, perhaps?

More than likely you will see McDonald's sales plummet. McDonalds tried this before under a former CEO and it was an expensive flop. Oh wait, it is the same guy saying they will do it again. Bottom line, customers will not accept it.

There’s a price point where customers will accept the robots though getting the product from a “person” is significant.
Replacing everyone but the manager and customer-interaction people with robots would cut jobs almost in half. Would be a logical continuation of their system too.
