Kasich instructs his delegates to remain bound to him through GOP convention
Washington Post ^ | 05/24/2016

Kasich believes holding onto his delegates is a smart play in a campaign season that has been wild and unpredictable, an aide explained. The governor also thinks his delegates could become leverage to encourage Trump to be a more positive and unifying figure ahead of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, said the aide, who requested anonymity to speak candidly.

Sens. Cruz of Texas and Marco Rubio of Florida, who also accumulated delegates before suspending their candidacies, have issued similar directives asking that their delegates remain bound.

Kasich's message to party officials in the letters, dated Monday and signed by the governor, was brief. In one such correspondence, Kasich wrote to Ohio Republican Party Chairman Matt Borges, "I appreciate the work of the party during this primary season, and I thank the voters of Ohio for putting their faith in me. Although I have suspended by campaign, I do not release any Delegates bound to me."

Kasich sent similar messages to the party chairmen in the District, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia. He copied Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus and RNC General Counsel John Ryder on each letter.

The rules committee will say otherwise.

So after Trump is over the top will they do the gracious thing that is usually done and agree to a unanimous proclamation?

I remember in early adolescence forming a scheme to ‘conquer’ Easter Island as the base for a nation state, under the assumptions that no one was there, and no one claimed sovereignty to the place. I was quickly disabused of these notions when I whispered them to a trusted adult whose advice I sought on effecting these plans.

With hindsight, that was more realistic than this notion of Kasich’s.

Trump has the numbers. I wanted the Huckabee delegates in 2008 and the Santorum delegates in 2012 to do the same thing. Let it play out.

Kasich is an idiot. Trump needs 28 more to clench, there are 300+ still available and he THE ONLY GUY STILL RUNNING.

Johnny Boy needs to give up his delusions: he’s not gonna be the nominee, and he’s going to have NO voice at the convention.

Kasich won one state. What kind of leverage does he think he has?

I think all mailmen are getting a bad rap because of Kasich.

I’m sure his dad would be disappointed.

“look, my father was a mailman and I’m a corrupt POS”

Each state’s rules determine whether their delegates remain bound to an inactive candidate.

A bound delegate cannot vote until either the state party rule says they can or that person to whom they are bound is placed in nomination. Kasich has no possible chance of being placed in nomination under the 8 state rule ( 40 b) so I don’t have a clue what he thinks he is doing.
