Jeb Bush said on Saturday he understands why supporters are backing Donald Trump, but was critical of the way Trump is "preying on people's angst rather than offering tangible solutions."
Speaking at an event in Amsterdam hosted by the Nexus Institute, the former presidential candidate discussed the rise of Trump, and of Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders.
"What I fear is that people, kind of looking down their nose, will say the people that are supporting Donald Trump are a bunch of idiots. They're not. They're legitimately scared. They're fearful. They're not as optimistic for legitimate reasons and there should be respect for that," the former Florida govenror said, according to CNN. "And on the other side, a similar respect needs to be shown."
Bush, who previously endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz for president, was not as critical of Trump as he has been in the past but is still unlikely to back the presumptive GOP nominee.
Bush added that Trump has "been phenomenally good at using the new way of communicating" to stay at the front of news cycles.
"He can literally wake up - I have this vision of him in, you know, silk pajamas, with his little slippers on with a 'T' on his emblem. He wakes up and he sends out a tweet ripping, you know, someone a new one," Bush said.
"He's the first guy that's ever been allowed to call into everything but 'Meet the Press.' I think they even relented. So he has been a master at how you get into the media, the new media, the diverse media that exists today in a way that had never been done before."

A wall sounds like a pretty tangible solution to me, Jeb.
Now, tell your son P to find his office after a year and a half and start earning his pay check.
Please flush...please flush again..
We’re “scared and fearful”? That’s it: we’re Bushaphobic.
We’re pissed. ¡Calla te Heb!
A wall is about as tangible a solution as there can be.
I can’t help but smile...it will be years before we have another Bush asking for our vote.
Columba was last seen at the local flea market trying to sell guacamole bowls.
I’ll bet those bowls were absolutely HUGE!
There’s still to be the Chelsea v. George P. showdown in 2028.
Trump should cut an ad pointing out that no Bush will back him. It would be helpful to try that approach. Otherwise, the American people won’t know that the Bushes are covertly for Mrs. Bill.
While Hillary does nothing but espouse meaningless slogans like “Fighting for Us”, Donald Trump has offered more tangible solutions than any presidential candidate I’ve ever seen in my lifetime:
Build the wall.
Implement 21st century foreign policy.
Support the police
End sanctuary cities.
End anchor babies.
Slap a temporary moratorium on muslim immigration.
Cut the taxes.
Cut the spending.
Cut the regulations.
Cut the government.
Cut the debt.
Cut the EPA.
Repeal ObamaCare.
Get the feds out and allow health insurance to be sold over state lines.
Send education back to states.
Get a handle on trade.
Get Obama out of our bathrooms.
Make trade deals in our own best interests.
Bring back capital.
Bring back manufacturing.
Bring back jobs.
Defend the second amendment.
Defend religious freedom.
Appoint constitutional conservative judges.
Rebuild our military.
Bomb the shite out of ISIS (and take their oil).
[and a tip o’ the hat to Jim Robinson for most of this list.]
Hasn’t this loon moved to mexico yet? What a weak putz.
Jeb says Trump has no solutions. That is a big fat lie. Jeb does not like Trump’s solutions is true. Jeb is a big globalist (the intertwining the US with UN rule) with open borders. Trump has an opposite vision and agenda.
Everything that Trump has proposed is quite feasible and tangible.
Bush is the one who offered nothing tangible, he was subconsciously or intentionally speaking about himself and a fourth Bush presidency.
If Trump had not knocked Bush out, it may have been the SIXTH time during our lifetime that a Bush succeeded on the Presidential ticket.
‘80 ‘84 ‘88 ‘00 ‘04 ‘16?
Let me walk that back, jeb! would have surely lost to Clinton.
Trump has offered more tangible/credible solutions than anyone in the race from the get-go....
Ultimately, excluding WI, that was why Cruz couldn't build up much steam.
I don’t need the pandering of some damn elite... eff you Jeb. Take your pity party and give it to someone else. I’m not your damn victim.
