What Would It Take for Donald Trump to Deport 11 Million and Build a Wall?
The New York Times ^ | MAY 19, 2016 | JULIA PRESTON, ALAN RAPPEPORT and MATT RICHTEL

He has said that the wall would be built from precast concrete and steel and that it could be 50 feet tall, if not higher. After calling for it to extend across the entire 2,000-mile southern border, he more recently said half that length could be sufficient because of natural barriers. He has pegged the cost at $4 billion to $12 billion, most recently settling on around $10b.

Some see that as low. “There’s a lot of logistics involved in this, and I don’t know how thoroughly they’ve thought it out,” said Todd Sternfeld, chief executive of Superior Concrete, a Texas-based builder of walls. “The resources alone would be astronomical.”

Mr. Sternfeld, who has led major wall projects across the country and approached the Trump family last summer, suggested that Mr. Trump was overly optimistic about the cost and was underestimating the complexity of the undertaking.

Running the numbers, Mr. Sternfeld said a 40-foot-tall concrete wall using a “post and panel” system that went 10 feet below the ground — to minimize tunneling — would cost at least $26 billion. The logistics would be nightmarish, including multiple concrete casting sites and temporary housing for a crew of 1,000 workers if the job were to be completed within Mr. Trump’s first four-year term.

Maintenance would be an additional recurring expense, said Walter W. Boles, an engineering professor at Middle Tennessee State University who specializes in concrete construction. Deep trench work would also be necessary for keeping a wall of that height from toppling, he said, and seismic sensors to detect digging would be wise for preserving its integrity from below.

“That’s one heck of a construction project,” said Mr. Boles, who assessed Patrick J. Buchanan’s 1996 proposal for a border barrier. “It’s certainly a lot more ambitious than I was imagining.”

Let’s see. An interstate freeway can be built from the west coast to the east coast for about 15 billion.

A border wall can be viewed as a coast-to-coast vertical freeway but with a lot less distance. a lot less real estate and a lot less impact.

Trump’s construction chiefs know how to estimate.

Trump always comes in under budget.

Trump is a master problem solver.

Trump says it will take about 10 billion.

Ok, I buy it.

First you build the wall THEN you start deportations, if not your are just trying to fill the bathtub without closing the drain hole first.

2nd the way Trump builds the wall is Win and the bigger the better. Then stick to his guns and call a joint session of congress and say: "The main plank of my campaign platform is building a wall on the borders. The people have spoken. Let us begin."

Then he makes sure everyone knows who their Congresscritters are and their phone numbers and fax numbers and email addresses. And he keeps talking about it and addressing the American people asking them to tell their congress critters to be Larry the Cable Guy...

Simple, stop the damned welfare, food stamps, emergency rooms, etc. . They will go back by themselves or starve. Then take the money you have saved in food stamps and build a wall with prisoner labor...hard labor from those who came here and committed crimes.

Very good. Also, stop doling out TRILLIONS to countries who hate us and want to kill us- (for instance Iran)

Even with a debt of approaching 20 trillion, we’ll probably bail out Puerto Rico- and where does this insanity stop? Bail out heavily indebted Ca and Ill?

Obama has set aside $17,000 each for welfare for his ‘migrants’- Mexican/ S Americans [with a proven mix of muslims] flooding over the open border as well as his importing thousands upon thousands muslim ‘refugees’ (colonists, future Jihadists)- all future rat voters AGAINST OUR WILL?
This is more than our seniors on SS make in a year after helping make America the greatest country the world has ever known.

This insanity has got to stop.

Americans are suffering. It’s time to put America and Americans first.

Donald WILL run into many problems trying to build a wall, but in the meantime, he WILL put enough guards on the border to secure it- and put a stop to the importation of muzzie ‘refugees’.

These guys are trying ti make it sound impossible but I call Horse Shit! The Panama Canal was ten times harder than building a simple wall and was done 100 years ago in an environment that was brutal on the workers and they managed to get it done in ten years. We have 100 years of technology advances and an environment that is a cake walk compared to that of what the canal builders had to face.

Politicians have proven that they are incapable of enforcing immigration laws and securing the border. So there has to be a WALL. Walls are apolitical and work 7x24x365.

We want that wall, we need that wall.

If Trump takes civilian volunteers to augment the workforce I’d say ti would take less than a year. I’d volunteer a month.

The government has proven incapable of enforce anything. Anyone not advocating a wall is American.

The American people demand a wall at least a good as the wall Mexico has on its southern border with Guatemala.

they'll self deport.

I think most will, and for those who don't, I'll be happy to give them a push in the right direction. :)

Simply make a law that hiring an illegal is a felony, enforce it and then no wall is needed (self deportation).

When you see the question, and who is asking it, that only means it is not necessary to read the article to know that their answer is.

Have companies bid for the right to confiscate the pay of illegal workers and to penalize scofflaw employers in areas that are franchised out.

Proceeds to be split 50% between the federal government and the franchisee company after the monthly base bid amount is recouped. The federal portion shall be considered an income tax and the franchised companies would be considered IRS contractors.

Let us say company FirstLA90019 bids $2 million/month to confiscate to confiscate the pay and assets of scofflaws working in that zip code and wins an 90019 area pay confiscation franchise.

All workers and employers it contacts in the 90019 area code would have to pay through the franchise company for as long as it chooses.

Contacted workers (and workers of contacted employers) would have to go to an office open from 12pm to 8pm six days a week in the 90019 zip code area to pick up their pay. Pay not picked up within 30 days would be confiscated. Companies would be presumed to be paying at least 20 hours of work per week/employee found working in the zip code, subject to proof to the contrary.

If another company thinks it could do better, then it might bid $2.5 million/month for the 90019 franchise.
