married men work harder (about 400 more hours), smarter (they’re less likely to quit without having found another job), and more successfully (they make about $16,000 more per year) than their single peers

Married men understand that being seen as inadequate providers is a fast route to divorce court. Many single men have a preference for leisure and low stress over income.

That wisdom comes more easily after having lived the other side and being screwed anyways. Don't hate the gals, just allergic to the handcuffs.

For some money grabbing women. Other women, who give their heart and soul to the marriage and are SAHM worry like hell for their husbands in this economy. Jobs being shipped overseas or given to illegals. It's hard to raise a family and the stress can pour down on both partners.

Depends on the man and the job, if he has one. If he doesn't, he's probably living in his parents basement and playing video games. If he works, it depends on the job. Companies are demanding more hours out of workers. If anything, single men probably are forced to work longer hours than married men.

Yep.

I have an Army buddy who works as a pilot flying oilfield guys all over Texas and New Mexico. Not high income, but plenty of leisure time and plenty of money in the bank — because he can live frugally without a leech to drain his resources.

Quite.
Just before meeting the future Mrs CTD, I was on track to reduce living expenses to near zero, and planning to let income do what it may.
Today, 13 years later, not so much.
