Back when John Boehner was Speaker, he was the unpopular establishment figure fighting against a passionate Republican base that adhered strictly to conservative orthodoxy. Today, in a surprising turn of events, Boehner—who supports Donald Trump—finds himself in a more enviable position.
Boehner has nothing to lose. He has no Speakership from which to be ousted. Meanwhile, many of his old adversaries—you know, the Ted Cruz 97% wing of the House GOP—suddenly find themselves on the wrong side of a passionate base that prizes Trumpian strength over ideological purity.
The tables, it seems, have turned.
Which brings us to this news in Politico the other day, and a crazy theory I have about what it means: “The former House speaker will spend late July and all of August on a cross-country bus trip raising money and campaigning for House Republicans, according to multiple sources familiar with his plans.”
Trump is Boehner’s revenge.
What would Boehner have in common with Trumpian strength? He makes Jeb Bush look high energy. He’s the biggest loser of the past 8 years of politics having squandered any chance of advancing ideas or any productive agenda.
Once things settle in, Cruz will eventually be a bigger ally than Boehner because he’s willing to do the heavy lifting to advance reform ideas through a timid Republican House and Senate.
I can’t see Boehner’s support as being a good thing for reelection
Cruz brings far more voters to the table than Boehner ever could. Mr. Trump would be well advised to avoid the former Speaker.
Boehner is Toxic Waste.
He’s grabbbing at the Trump Train like a drowning man grabs at a lifeboat.
Any pubbie that takes up with this Political *hore is due for a comeuppance.
The Donald ain’t no saint, but neither are we.
Bonehead is just looking for a new job along with the rest of his stooges.
Did any of us know Trump was Boner’s ally?
This was sprung on everybody after the nomination was sewed up.
Too late loser.
When you contribute to the extreme deterioration of the Republic, there is no THIRD chance.
Just go away and let the doers accomplish useful things.

The same, incidentally is true of that nutcase Biden.

Although Donald is bringing the party together now, so it’s really not a surprise.
No doubt Boehner knows where the bodies are buried...information which will be of interest to the Trump campaign.
