Buckling under conservative pressure, the Republican-led House Rules Committee pulled a legislative sleight of hand and stripped a provision from the annual defense policy bill that would have required women between the ages of 18 and 25 to sign up for a military draft.
The committee's chairman, Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas, said in a statement Tuesday the action was taken to prevent what he called a "reckless policy" from moving forward without closer study of its impact.
"I have the utmost respect and deepest appreciation for the young women who bravely volunteer to serve our country, but I am adamantly opposed to coercing America's daughters to sign up for the Selective Service at 18 years of age," Sessions said.
The Rules Committee wields substantial influence over legislation before it moves to the House floor. The full House planned to start work on the bill on Tuesday. A Senate bill does include a version of the provision, so the congressional debate over whether women should register isn't over.
Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland, the No. 2 Democrat in the House, criticized the committee move, casting it as an attempt by Republicans to avoid subjecting "their members to a vote on equality for women, and they ought to."

Different time for sure. In those days people would rather be drafted than labeled a sexual deviant.

Nothing but a jackass would require a girl to register for the draft. And that’s pure sophistry to say you want them to register, but that isn’t a draft.
That’s the idiot logic of people who want to register guns, saying “but we don’t intend to confiscate them”.
If you don’t intend to draft women, you don’t need to register them. They need to be forming families, creating homes, raining babies.
And it’s also very dense to punish the militant feminists who want this, by forcing normal traditional girls who had no part of that garbage into uniform. Its idiotic, that ACHIEVES the goal of the feminists to destroy the lives of traditional American girls.
Don't want to register for the draft? Then don't register to vote. This would solve a lot of problems.

I don’t want the little girls in my family sent to the military. This is only pushed by the kinds of guys who have the woman come pick them up for a date.

I think that only those that are eligible for the draft, and those serving or vets, should be eligible to vote.
People that aren’t have no business voting to potentially send people to war while they sit comfortably at home.
Sorry, but a law that applies to only half of the population is invalid. A law must apply to all, or to none. Either drop the law or recognize that it applies to women too.

This moron for one. There is no reason why women can't register for the draft if it is mandatory for women to register for the draft.
Women serve in all branches of the military today, and if ever a war breaks out that requires us to reinstate the draft, drafting women for clerical, technical, non-combat positions will free up MEN for the actual combat positions.
The law applies to all. All men must register, all women cannot. covers everyone... unless I’m questioning... if I’m not sure I’m a man, do I still have to register??
I was RA, in other words I enlisted and at 17 1/2. I wanted to go jump out of planes and kill the enemy like my stepbrother with the 101st Airborne Rangers.
At bootcamp during 1965 in Fort Ord we used to tell the crybabies that if they really wanted out, all they had to do when the DI came in to wake us up, was to run up to him and kiss him good morning. I never saw anyone do that, but I’ll bet some of them considered trying it. LOL
If anyone had identified themselves as homo back then, they would have tripped and accidentally fallen down the stairs, all 3 flights.
Enough already! It is time to end this nonsense that men and woman are the same. If every eight year old knows that boy and girls are different then we adults should be able to do the same. Not only should we not require women to register for the draft we should also get rid of Title IX and all the other “Civil Rights” laws that force everyone to treat men and the women the same. They are different; live with it!

Somewhere, some time the government will have to devise a policy to deal with Obama’s Transgender Army.
For the purposes of the military draft perhaps their status should be defined by which bathroom and shower they elect to use.
Allowing women to vote is not the same as the government forcing me to fill half of every job category with women or forcing schools to have the same sports programs for boys and girls, even if the girls are not interested. It is not the government’s business to force changes in natural social relations that have existed across societies for centuries. Protect us from threats, foreign and domestic, then leave us alone.
Denying the importance of natural sex roles is part of the general Egalitarian/Collectivist war on reality; war on tradition; war on morality. They seek to decree their fantasy that people are interchangeable.
The reality is that for most people sex & sexuality, sex roles and all, are very important in terms of the pursuit of happiness. The House Republicans should be commended for stepping up into the breach as it were, to oppose this absurdity.
