Mitt Romney made an unsuccessful effort to recruit Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse as a third-party presidential candidate to challenge Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, a source with knowledge of the efforts confirmed to CNN Sunday.

Sasse, the freshman Republican, has emerged as one of Trump's foremost critics from the right. Romney and Sasse have talked, the source said, and Romney encouraged Sasse to seriously consider a run...

But Sasse is refusing to enter the race...

At the Nebraska GOP convention, Sasse was rebuked through a resolution that was overwhelmingly approved by Republicans there who argued that his position would only help Hillary Clinton win the White House..

It’s long past time for Romney to retire, and keep his mouth shut, no one cares what he thinks. He had his shoot, and choked. Too bad he didn’t put as much time and effort into his campaign against 0bama, he might be running for re-election now instead of just being an a$$.

Romney has a lot to lose if Trump wins.
Bain Capital needs a Puerto Rico bailout.
The Cheap Labor Express will cease to run.
Don’t expect him to stop his under-handed tactics to help Hillary.

Romney suffers a delusion of grandeur. He needs to change his magic diaper.

This makes it sound as if Sasse because he’s a principled conservative rejected Romney’s overtures. It seems more like he’s a spoiled brat elitist Freshman Senator who is way out of line about his disdain for Republican voters. Three cheers to Nebraska voters for humiliating him!

It would be great!!!! To have a Sasse Lucifer ticket so we could laugh at them; but Sasse is probably too smart to bite for it. What is the difference between a skunk like Mittens andterrorists who get dimwits to blow themselves up?

At this point it would be career suicide to run against Trump. Only someone on the way out like McCain would be a possibility.

“unsuccessful”

That is the word I was looking for. Hehehe I bet Mitt is still hoping Cruz can do something at the convention.

Romney was doing his arrogant bullsh*t about Trump not being worth as much money as he says...

Trump answered him by saying ONE store he owned in New York was worth MORE than everything Romney had.. PoliFacts checked it out and it was true...

Romney’s all hat - no cattle.

The globalist Bankster Romney is on the side of the globalist clintons, NOT on the side of rank-and-file Republicans, or on the side of the millions of Republicans and Independents who have voted for and supported Donald Trump.

Romney wold much prefer a globalist Hillary clinton Presidency to a populist-nationalist Trump Presidency. That is despite the fact that globalism means endless war and increasing poverty for most Americans, and despite the fact that the clintons are crooks and war criminals!!!!

The Republican Party of Nebraska wisely said NO! to Romney’s scheme, and took Senator Sasse off the hook!!!! GOOD!!!!

Romney needs to try to start up a new automobile manufacturer. It could be called Rambler.

As indicated in the article, Mark Cuban has also been contacted about a third party run. From what I’ve read on Zero Hedge, it sounds like Cuban isn’t necessarily against the idea of running (i.e., his ego kind of likes the idea). He just thinks it’s too late.

Nobody who hopes to ever run for higher office on a Republican ticket is going to mount an independent or third party campaign now.

Sasse isn't noble and isn't dastardly. He's just acting in his own self-interest in not running.

If Romney really is trying to find a #NeverTrump candidate he's going to run up against the fact that nobody who actually has a political future is going to jeopardize it by going against the party's nominee.

Mitt doesn't have much stick-to-itiveness, so he'll get tired soon enough and give up.

Romney has slowly transformed himself from a hopeless twit to an embarrassment to a drag on the party.
