Sheldon Adelson Is Poised to Give Donald Trump a Donation Boost ($100 million+)
Breitbart ^ | 14 May | Jonathan Martin

Posted on 05/14/2016 8:12:56 AM PDT by dennisw

The casino magnate Sheldon G. Adelson told Donald J. Trump in a private meeting last week that he was willing to contribute more to help elect him than he has to any previous campaign, a sum that could exceed $100 million, according to two Republicans with direct knowledge of Mr. Adelson’s commitment.

As significant, Mr. Adelson, a billionaire based in Las Vegas, has decided that he will significantly scale back his giving to congressional Republicans and direct most of his contributions to groups dedicated to Mr. Trump’s campaign. The two Republicans familiar with Mr. Adelson’s plans spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

Mr. Adelson’s pledge to Mr. Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, comes at an opportune time. Mr. Trump has relied on a mix of his own wealth and small-dollar contributions to finance his primary effort and lacks the sort of major donor network needed to sustain him in the general election. Mr. Trump has said that he may need $1 billion for the campaign but has only recently begun scheduling fund-raisers and hiring finance staff members. Many of the Republican Party’s wealthiest contributors, including the billionaire brothers Charles G. and David H. Koch, have indicated they are unlikely to give to his candidacy.

This Breitbart article is linked to the original NYT article which goes onto to explain that Sheldon Adelson backed Newt Gingrich in 2012, which helps to explain Adelson's easy conversion from Cruz to Trump.

I'm very pleased that Sheldon and his wife are now backing Mr. Donald Trump! The Sheldon's will serve to signal other wealthy Jewish Republicans to back Donald Trump too. Mr. Trump has passed the Pro-Israel test and that is GOOD for Isael and for US.

So what is Adelson getting in return for his $100,000,000?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Adelson cares about US-Israel policies first and foremost. Anything else is of minor significance to him.

>> Trump criticized such arrangements during the primary <<

No longer operative. Air-brushed out of the historical record. Nothing to see here. Move along.

My wife knew this guy many years back when she worked in Rage in West Hollywood. He owned the bank next door and came into the (gay) bar all the time. Odd that he had a couple wives along the line.

“I don’t expect Trump to shoulder this by himself.”

True. A few months back he was clear that he was self-funding only his primary campaign, but would need donations if/when in the general election.

Goofyhontas: Pretty great name!

DJT has made many statements about Europe and America, that Islam is a menace to both. Europe has received much larger Muslim terrorism recently and Trump’s positions reflect this. All this usually defaults into supporting Israel and in Trump’s case it does.

Donald Trump reacted to the explosions that rocked Brussels Tuesday morning, describing the scene as a “disaster” and warning that “this is just the beginning.”

The Republican front-runner, who has made immigration and security issues central to his 2016 presidential bid, discussed the reported suicide attacks in an interview on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends.”
“I will tell you, I’ve been talking about this a long time, and look at Brussels,” Trump said. “Brussels was a beautiful city, a beautiful place with zero crime. And now it’s a disaster city. It’s a total disaster, and we have to be very careful in the United States, we have to be very careful and very vigilant as to who we allow in this country. “

So what. The Democrats support Iran so Adelson support Republicans. Sure beats enabling Iran the way John Kerry, Hussein O, Valerie Jarrette, The US State Department have. Trump never would have dropped Iranian sanctions and enabled their nuclear weapons program

When Trump talks that very straight forward way about Brussels Islamic terrorism it is easy to see what side he is on.

This can only hurt Trump.

I would agree if the reason that he didn't take large donations before was that he didn't want to appear to be bought like other politicians. But, if he says now that he didn't previously take donations for some other reason, then most supporters will not feel that there has been any reversal. For example, he can say that he didn't take large contributions before because he didn't want people to think that he's running for president in order to make a profit from the campaign.

Trump said that he will raise money for the Republican party. He will self fund for his own personal campaign expenses.

Exactly so, but those who were doubtful were likely anti-Trump anyway. Mr. Trump is solidly pro-Israel.

His statement about being an impartial or fair broker was misconstrued because there's no such thing animal ...lol. It was a stupid statement and everyone but the remarkably dumb knew it. He was trying to make a valid point, but he failed and failed cringeworthily.
