Paul Ryan should step down and go work for the Hillary Clinton campaign.

“I disagree.

A winner would make Ryan worship at his feet.”

I agree. They’re playing political chess, and Ryan’s not smart enough to realize he’s playing with a grandmaster. Trump does not want to appear like he’s utterly rejecting the establishment, which is what the perception would be if he were to take Ryan up on his offer to resign. That doesn’t help him. Nor does he want to cozy up with them. I suspect it’ll be somewhat of an anti-climax on Thursday where they’ll come out of their meeting and Ryan will say they had a great talk and cleared things up and he now supports him. What else can he do in the face of Trump’s public support? He’s facing losing his seat, now.

Ryan is playing with Trump. It would NOT surprise me to hear that Ryan and Romney are planning a coup to out Trump should he NOT get the 1237 candidates needed. They could then become the new “nominees”. Nothing would surprise me.

Agree with this.

Let Trump make the honest effort to unify. Make the GOPe be the one to break. Ryan did overplay his hand. If he kowtows quickly, Trump will be quick to pivot to the “Ryan is a great guy - I get along with him fantastically - You people in the media are dishonest.”

He has Mama Grizzly as his counterweight to support Ryan’s primary opponent as leverage. Trump can stay above that fray.

BTW, like your tagline, although you could say it was Romney and the Bushes all along!

hold on now.

from the piece:

"Donald Trump walks in to these meetings holding all the leverage. It would be great if he began deconstructing the entire apparatus this week.'

remember the golden rule?

Ryan has been out raising money for the GOP for the past month.

so, who is in control of the GOP bank account? there's got to be millions there?

who signs the check?

I think what they are maneuvering to do is to adjourn the convention without a nominee, and convene a "real Republican" convention a few weeks later at a better location (somewhere near K Street).

Trump will get the 1,237. They have been wrong on everything since attempting to anointed John Ellis Bush. Even if Trump didn't get 1,237, most of the Cruz delegates will go with Trump before taking a deus ex machina candidate, and the Trumpers won't accept Cruz or Kasich under any circumstances.

That could be the case, too - in which case the party is as dead as a doornail, but they might not care about that in their single-minded determination to keep all the power in the hands of the elites. I hope you’re wrong.

For now!
After the election make the needed cuts.

If they are still standing.

I was just thinking the other day that Rick Perry would make a good RNC chairman.

“Why is he so eager to get those people on his side?”

Both Ryan and Reince are insufferable and should be gone from their power positions, but the fact is they hold sway in WI, which will be important to Trump in November. Trump can’t afford to just hand Hillary! all of WI’s electoral votes. Sometimes, in politics, you have to make unhappy alliances in order to win. Losing get you nowhere.

I suppose you’re right, but those men cannot be trusted. So the only benefit of having them close is to “keep your friends close, and your enemies closer”.

Although I think it’s time that Wisconsin wised up to these guys and find new leaders of the NON-RINO variety.

I’m rooting for Nehlan - would be great to see Ryan fall by the wayside.
