McCain on Trump: 'Foolish' to ignore will of GOP voters
CNN ^ | May 8, 2016 | Manu Raju,

Sen. John McCain is chastising GOP leaders for failing to embrace Donald Trump as the choice of millions of voters, laying out his most extensive views to date about Trump at the top of the ticket. He's also repudiating some of the presumptive nominee's comments -- particularly about prisoners of war.

In a wide-ranging "State of the Union" interview in his campaign office in Phoenix, McCain criticized party leaders who are reluctant to back Trump, saying they are "out of step" with voters who have chosen the controversial businessman as the GOP standard-bearer. He defended Trump for being a strong and "capable" leader, particularly on foreign policy. He called on Trump to choose a running mate who could "unite the party," possibly Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst, even as he strongly defended his 2008 choice of Sarah Palin.

McCain is doing the right thing, other Republicans should follow his example.

They may not agree with Trump on everything, and there may be personal issues, hurt feelings, but they need to look at the bottom line: if Republicans don't support Trump, they are helping Hillary become president. Do they really want that?

You don’t think it has anything to do with McCain being up for re-election in November?

Juan McAmnesty may be saying the right words, but don’t think for one minute that he believes what he’s saying, he knows that he is within range of being primaried and finally put out to pasture, and like the political whore he is, he’ll hitch his wagon to anything and anyone he thinks can save him from being evicted from that life long gravy train he’s been feasting on while giving a reach around to his ‘RAT friends across the aisle.

McCain always pretends to be a Republican around election time. As soon as it is over he will be back to sucking up to his fellow liberals. I wish I lived in Arizona so I could vote against him.

McPain is less than a desirable source of backing for Trump, but at least he sees the writing on the wall, and is using the GOP conflict in his battle to retain office to his advantage in a way it at least seems he’s on the right side. He could have chosen a Trump-negative stance, so we know who he thinks is the winner in all of this.

It’s a long-time pattern with McCain. Conservative a few months before election, liberal *sshole the rest of his life.

It sounds to me more like McDrivel is trying to save his primary ass. While I will gratefully accept all offered help, take his help then primary him anyway.

McCain has never done the right thing. McCain is pandering.
Just a few days ago McCain was whining about Trump hurting his re-election chances.

That's right. McCain will say anything to get reelected - then he will turn and bite us.

Since McCain's 80-yrs, he'll spend the next 6-years getting revenge on his enemies.
