Trump Says Taxes for the Wealthy Should Go Up

Donald Trump said on Sunday that taxes for the wealthy should go up but that his tax plans would likely be renegotiated with Congress should he win the U.S. presidency.

"For the wealthy I think frankly it is going to go up and, you know what, it really should go up," the presumptive Republican presidential nominee told NBC's "Meet the Press."

Trump said that he see his current tax plans, which would reduce taxes for the middle class and businesses and increase those for the wealthy, as a negotiating "floor" that may change in dealings with Congress. Latest News Update Get Newsmax TV At Home »

However, he added, "when it comes time to negotiate, I feel less concerned with the rich than I do with the middle class."

He is talking about taxes on the hedge funds.

His plan was posted online months ago, in case you didn’t hear.

Standard Election Year Pandering 101. Even from Trump. And of course from Bernie as well.

Clarify this, Donald!

Taxes should go down for everyone and the graduated scale should be tossed out the window. Begin working on a plan to eliminate the IRS and go to a very low flat tax on individuals and as close to zero as we can get on corporate tax.

The article is misleading. False, in fact. Trump “walked it back” in the studio. There is a current tax level (way too high), and Trump proposed tax level, and many levels in between. What Trump conceded (he has to, Congress sets the tax rates) was that the taxes imposed could be higher than what he proposed. That is not the same as taxes being higher than what they are presently.

Clarify this, Donald!

He has been clear, businesses will pay less, workers will pay less. But Billionaires will pay more because their loopholes will be gone. It’s not as simple as that but he has never wavered on this, not once.

I’m not sure if you were on the phone and it was auto-correcting, but I can’t quite make out what you’re saying.

DT is calling for higher taxes on the wealthy, yes?

“For the wealthy I think frankly it is going to go up and, you know what, it really should go up,”

This seems breathtakingly clear to me.

I think you are saying that Trump said, “Congress could theoretically set the rate higher than I propose.”

I don’t begin to see that at all. He said, “For the wealthy I think frankly it is going to go up and, you know what, it really should go up.”

Yes, he did concede that Congress makes the laws, but he was clearly stating a preference for higher taxes.

Huh? I guess he never wavered, unless you actually read his tax plan.

So tax hikes on the 1% and raising the minimum wage are now off the table for Hillary. Neither is an issue that get my blood boiling.

Now let's talk about NAFTA/TPP/nation building...

I confess to not seeing the interview. Did he say in the interview that hedge fund taxes should go up?

Because if you say on Monday you want hedge fund taxes to go up, and then say on Tuesday that you want higher taxes on the wealthy, then you have just called for (a) higher hedge fund taxes, AND!!!!! (b)higher taxes on the wealthy also.

In no language on Earth is “higher taxes on hedge funds” the same as “higher taxes on the wealthy.”

Trump, the typical Rino, moving to the left once he has the nomination.

Most here seem not to agree with you.

Apparently, with Trump, it all depends on what the meaning of the word “is” is.

Look at post number 5; clearly DT was not in any way shape or form calling for higher taxes, and only mentally retarded could think so.

What is BS? I have no idea what his tax plan “purposed” months ago was, however, if his tax plan “purposed” months ago did NOT involve raising taxes on the wealthy, then he HAS changed them. Period. Because in the interview in question he called for raising taxes on the wealthy.

“For the wealthy I think frankly it is going to go up and, you know what, it really should go up.”

For English speakers, that is a proposed tax increase on the wealthy.

False. Trump has proposed cutting taxes across the board but stated that taxes on the rich would likely end up increasing during negotiations. He also stated that he would make sure taxes on the middle class would be cut and that business taxes would be less than existing but higher than he has proposed.

Whether these are good or bad things is a decision for the voters.
