The father of a Council Bluffs woman killed in a deadly hit and run in January is on Capitol Hill ready to talk to Congress.
Sarah Root's father Scott will testify before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform today. Investigators say Eswin Mejia was in the country illegally and racing drunk when he slammed into Root's SUV and killing her. Police arrested Mejia for motor vehicle homicide and he disappeared after getting bailed out of jail.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Sarah Saldana was also at the hearing and spoke directly to Root's father. "That the D.A. said some of these things could have done better there is a lot of unfortunate there is a lot of different things that could have been done. I am going to use this as an example of what we should have done differently."

This woman is a complete moron! But then look who “hired” her!
I watched a video of his hearing and the first two hours were the congressman taking turns beating on her. At one point they asked the dad a question and he pointed to Saldana and asked why she still had her job.
A complete moron, but also realize the purpose for her selection. She was vetted by the president to lead ICE and make sure they remained completely ineffective. Part of that job description is having to go to Congress and take fire for the results of her policies. All part of the plan.
How was bail set in such circumstances? That’s not on the Feds but the locals.

That’s the first problem in the case was that the local judge set bail to low. The second mistake that occurred was that the local ICE office was approached five time by Omaha Police and rebuffed each time, hence the focus.
There are some who think the police should be held accountable as if you’re an illegal immigrant, you’ve already broken a dozen laws and should have been arrested after the hearing.
Not surprised. Here in New Mexico if your bail is set at $50,000 the lawyers will plead something and you will be released on own good behavior or at most 5,000. The judicial system in this country, top to bottom, is vastly corrupt and ineffective. They are allowing the criminals to walk free everywhere.
It’s disgusting when some guy commits a high profile crime and they show his pages long rap sheet on the news. And some of these guys are barely adults.
They needed to spend some quality time with Sipowicz.
Our (In)Justice System dropped the ball on Eswin Mejia.
His bail was set for 10% of $50,000 which his brother put up $5,000 for his release. The problem is that Mejia is an illegal immigrant from Honduras who had a warrant for his arrest since May of 2015 for other driving infractions, which the Police could not find him until he was driving drunk, drag racing, operating a vehicle without a proper license and killed one of our young citizens!
He has been driving here without a license for the last three or four years. Being arrested for this serious crime and being an illegal immigrant, he should of had an ICE detainer on him so if the was released on bail ICE would have been notified and they would of arrested him on federal charges?
Our Justice System is the blame for him being on the loose and costing the taxpayers in pursuit of him!
Clear out all illegals! Never let them return under any set of conditions. While we’re at it, take a bulldozer to those Muslim enclaves.

The second mistake was the father being so politically unengaged that he blindly supported the dem politicians who created this situation in the first place. Probably an Obama voter.
Everyone should read Mr. Root’s testimony.
