Russell Moore: Saying America Is a Christian Nation Is Contrary to the Gospel
Christian Post ^ | May 5, 2016 | Michael Gryboski

Russell Moore says the belief that the United States is a Christian nation in the respect of being a divinely ordained country is "theological liberalism."

In a video posted to YouTube on Tuesday, the head of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention tackled the question of whether or not the U.S. is a Christian nation.

"If what you mean by that is a nation in which most of the people profess to be Christians, then certainly the United States of America was and is a Christian nation," said Moore.

Forked-tongue Moore, as usual, tries to sound reasonable, but his equivocation is unmistakable.

Why is the SBC still employing this leftist mole?

It’s more than just most people in this country professing to be Christians. Christian values and ethics are woven into laws, customs and the very structure of government. Moore will not acknowledge this.

One of these millenniums, zealous, but low-information Christians will hopefully catch on to the idea that the states have the 10th Amendment-protected power to address religious issues, power now limited by the 14th Amendment, the Founding States stripping the federal government of such power as evidenced by the 1st Amendment to the Constitution.

“The idea that we’re living in a Christian nation in that sense is really a form of theological liberalism. It assumes that a person or a nation can be a Christian apart from the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit, apart from new birth. That is contrary to the Gospel.” …
No, that is not what the phrase “Christian nation” means, Mr. Russell. Another one conflating the free exercise clause with the establishment clause, never mind being mendacious about the present state of being in Christian countries that do have state churches.

He is the head of the SBC’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (why do they have one?), and yes.

End of story! Get over it, we ARE A CHRISTIAN NATION. PERIOD!

It's obvious that odumbo doesn't want this country to be designated as Christian as do a number of atheists and MUSLIMS.

Most in the SBC have never heard of Moore and don’t know what a “leftist mole” is.

It may be ‘contrary to the gospel’ but it happens to be a fact.

There is no establishment of religion, so this is not a Christian nation.
However, some people, ignorant of the meaning of words, call it a Christian nation because the majority of the people are nominally Christian.

Well we’re well on the way to an Islamic/Liberal country.

Excellent point.

Even Obama had the gall to imply that America was a "Muslim nation." Does that mean the the majority of people are Muslims (his ardent wet dream) or that Islamic law is/should be controlling? I think the latter.

To: I want the USA back

It is a Christian nation because it was founded under the presumption that rights are granted from God; and it is beyond dispute that the Founders were unambiguously referring to the God of Christianity and all of Scripture.

To their own undoing.

We are going to stupid ourselves to death. But hey, who's on Dancing With the Stars tonight?

Sorry, the state church is not a biblically defined entity.

Have such countries arrogated Christianity? Yes.

Are they Christian per the bible? No.
