Hillary Clinton is walking into Donald Trump’s trap
WaPo ^ | 5 May 2016 | Danielle Allen

Donald Trump has set a big, fat trap for Hillary Clinton, and so far she has stepped right into it. He turned his attacks against women against her. She is, he argued, playing the “woman card.” And Clinton anted up, offering her supporters the chance to buy a “woman card.” From now until Nov. 8, Trump will surely continue to insult women. If Clinton routinely responds to those attacks, Trump will turn her into the “women’s candidate,” and she will lose. She is already perilously close to being that candidate.

Let’s be honest. Polling shows that Trump has a problem with women, but it also shows that Clinton has a problem with men. Thanks to Bernie Sanders’s pushing and prodding over the course of the primary, Clinton’s vision has expanded, but we all know its core: She is a battle-tested warrior for women and children.

Consider her slogan, “Fighting for us.” For many men, this slogan would have to be experienced as emasculating. A woman fighting for them? Rightly or wrongly, the slogan rubs the wrong way in relation to traditional notions of masculinity. Her slogan itself reveals a limited conception of who she seeks to represent. This is a potentially fatal flaw in Clinton’s campaign. The more that Clinton takes Trump’s bait around the issue of his denigration of women, the more powerfully this flaw in her own campaign will show itself.

Clinton needs to fix this problem, and fast. And she needs to avoid taking Trump’s bait.

here are important lessons to be learned from the many Republican candidates who rose to the bait and were decimated by Trump’s rhetoric. His monikers for them consistently had two effects: They pushed his foes off message and also forced them to fight on turf that Trump chose for them.

.... and we know Hillary won’t press for equal time...that’s the last thing she wants.

Every surrogate will be. Which will feed into the media bias (Big Government, Big Business, Big Media all bought) theme nicely.

When exactly has Trump “insulted women?”

That's the immediate response that needs to be made whenever someone mindlessly parrots the leftist media propaganda. Expose them on the spot. Criticizing a woman is not "insulting women." BOOM--propaganda exposed and turned back on its source!

She has a core following, around 25%, like Obama has. But I am almost certain, that she will choose a woman for her running mate.

Elizabeth Warren
Nancy Pelosi
etc.

I don’t think she’d pick Bernie, but then again, that would be an interesting pair. The communist and her.

She’s in a pickle, a real pickle.

She can’t do the straw man thing on him, and she’s comical. Trump saying that she was “Yelling at the teleprompter.”

“As Katrina Pierson said recently, “Just because you criticize a woman does not mean you are insulting women!””

Pierson is 100% right.

That kind of an argument also says that the mere criticism of a black President is racist. That is BS - ANYONE can be criticized, because NO ONE IS PERFECT. If someone cannot accept that simple fact of life - which has been, is and always will be true - then I don’t want to associate with them, and I refuse to give a rat’s hindquarters WHAT they say or think.

“Thank you Ross Perot for giving us these two scumbags.”

No, thank George H. W. Bush - he’s the one who lied like a rug in the 1988 campaign, promising to essentially be Reagan’s 3rd term, while acting like an elitist one-worlder starting on the 1st day in office. Bush created Perot in the exact same manner as the GOPe created Trump.

Oh, and irony of ironies, that same Bush and his son are boycotting the one guy who can stop the other Clinton (the Witch, not the Philanderer). Makes one wonder about the Bushes, doesn’t it?

“Trump is like a rhetorical Muhammad Ali. Let’s see if he can get her coughing in a debate!”

...and then act the role of a perfect gentleman by walking over to her and offering a clean hanky and a bottle of water. Wouldn’t that be sweet?

I agree that George H.W. Bush ran a terrible re-election campaign in 1992, but he would have won easily over Clinton that year if Perot hadn’t run as an Independent and taken 20% of the votes. Without Perot, a large majority of those votes would have gone to Bush.

Trump has 6 months to expose Hillary for the fraud, liar, and criminal that she is. I think by the time he’s done with her he’ll pull in most all Republicans, many Independents, some Democrats, and win easily by a 5-10% margin.

These never Trump people need to think about our US Supreme Court and reconsider to becoming never Hillary people.

Donald Trump has set a big, fat trap for Hillary Clinton,

Well, that makes sense. You would normally use a big, fat trap for big, fat quarry.

Duhh.

if Trump had not made himself so unpopular with women.

According to who, the MSM? All the females in my family (2 sisters, 2 nieces, the wives of my nephews, and the mothers-in-law of my nephews and nieces) all love the guy. I'm fortunate not to have one single Dem in my family and extended family.

Trump won women voters in last 7 elections.
