GOP senator [Sasse] calls for 'adult' third-party candidate

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) is calling for a third-party presidential candidate to emerge, saying there is no reason to believe that either of the two national front-runners "believe in limiting anything about DC's power."

The conservative senator late Wednesday issued the call in a letter on Facebook to "the majority of Americans" who wonder why the U.S. "can't find a healthy leader who can take us forward together." "With Clinton and Trump, the fix is in. Heads, they win; tails, you lose. Why are we confined to these two terrible options? This is America. If both choices stink, we reject them and go bigger," Sasse wrote.

"Why shouldn't America draft an honest leader who will focus on 70% solutions for the next four years? You know...an adult?" Sasse added.

Sasse envisions a candidate who hasn't spent their life in politics, "either buying politicians or being bought." He also wants a candidate to serve for only one term "as a care-taker problem-solver for this messy moment."

Sasse, the father of three kids, indicated he's not interested in being that candidate himself, arguing for someone who can campaign around the clock through November.

"Although I'm one of the most conservative members of the Senate, I'm not interested in an ideological purity test, because even a genuine consensus candidate would almost certainly be more conservative than either of the two dishonest liberals now leading the two national parties," he added.

Sasse is one of few leading Republicans who have indicated that they will never support Trump as the nominee and signaled in February that if Trump becomes the presumptive GOP nominee, as the businessman has this week, he'd look for a third-party alternative.

Hey, Sasse, your elitism is showing!

In other words just vote for Hillary.

Work will set you free. That’s the last thing he should see before entering where he belongs.

Ben Sasse is a good guy. He’s not for Trump, but he’s a good guy and it’s great he’s in the Senate.

Yup. You know this is going to happen cause they stand to lose EVERYTHING if Trump wins (or the Dems decide they don’t need them anymore).

I would agree if Sasse specifically said the 3rd party candidate would be Bernie Sanders, trying to split the Democrats.

If he is suggesting 3rd party to split the Republicans, that’s not a good guy move, in my opinion.

Senator: Give it a rest. That train has left the station. The Fat Lady has sung,

The witch must be defeated.

He’s the guy who obviously looks like the less-than-adult in the room.

He should be removed from the party. He *IS* the GOP.

Exactly, why would they remove one of their own?

I don’t think he is nuts....think about it this way.

Create a 3rd party.

Call it something like ‘Republican Conservatives’

Drain votes from Trump, while appearing not to be supporting Hillary.

After Trump is “”defeated”, return to power, all without having the stain of having voted for Hillary.

BUT! the joke’s on them...because Hillary won’t be the nominee.

She will take the pardon, keep her dirty millions and avoid audits.

Trouble is then....will this new party vote for Sanders?

Whacha gonna do?

Sadly, this is how I think that the scenario will unfold.
Sadly, I think that the ticket will be Biden/Warren at the last minute.

Which will really give Trump (and us) a run for his money.

A Biden/Warren ticket would be tough.

And I think the GOPe would be very happy with this.

So, this is the final set of Dirty Tricks that the GOPe has left to play.

Nebraska voters may think differently here very soon. He might be back tracking too when they vote overwhelmingly for Trump in their primary.

But yours is a reasonable argument. Most of this thread reminds me of scenes from the French Revolution.

The fact of the matter is the cultural war has been lost. Conservative stands for ‘conned into servitude’ which is all that has happened in the last twenty eight years. The only remaining winnable conservative issues are regarding trade and national security. It matters who the president is because congress has failed to do their jobs for too long. Checks and balances is up to congress. The republicans fought hard to defeat Ben and now he has become one of them. Washington is a cesspool and we need to absolutely require our elected officials work from home. Ben is throwing a temper tantrum and my guess is when Trump is exposed, a lot of high ranking republicans will be exposed. I have no idea what they know about each other, but I expect it to be interestingly!

Slime slithering out from every crack and crevice in DC for the American voters to see and vote on accordingly.

We should start a list for one and all to see whose who and exactly all those that put themselves before the good of the country.
