Hawaii Republican leaders respond to shakeup in race for White House

By Chelsea Davis, Reporter

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Donald Trump won the Indiana primary and is very likely to win the Republican nomination for president and that has Hawaii Republicans deeply divided.

The Ted Cruz Hawaii Campaign chairman would not say who he will vote for now. But other Republican leaders have a warning for voters.

"I think Donald Trump is somebody who is extraordinarily dangerous, he is a demagogue, he is offensive, and he really does not have the qualifications or fitness to be our nation's next president," said Republican and former U.S. Congressman Charles Djou.

"I think if you are a true sincere conservative, if you are a true sincere American, you have to be frightened by Donald Trump,” Djou said.

Trump got 42 percent of the vote, while Cruz had 33 percent in Hawaii's Republican presidential caucus back in March. Cruz got seven of the 19 delegates and his Hawaii Campaign Chairman Willes Lee is one of them.

"We are still looking forward to going to Cleveland. We'll make sure that we have a Republican nominee who will beat Clinton this fall," Lee said.

Hawaii Republican Party Chair Fritz Rohlfing says he will support Trump if he challenges Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton in the election.

"I think Hillary Clinton would be a disaster for the United States of America,” said Rohlfing.

“It's very likely Donald Trump will be the nominee and yes, I think he'll mount a strong campaign and I think it's very possible he could win," Rohlfing said.

Rohlfing believes the Republican Party will unite coming out of the Republican National Convention in July. But Lee said he fears Republicans just won’t come out to vote. Djou said no matter what, he will not vote for Trump and he believes he is not alone.

"I have to make a lot of hard choices here because I certainly do not support Donald Trump and I do not want him to be our nation's next president," Djou said.

Ohio governor John Kasich said he is still in the GOP's presidential race. Charles Djou supports him and is holding out hope that he could get the nomination at the convention.

Djou is a RINO, anyhow. If Trump were the left-winger they exclaim he is, they’d be falling all over themselves to endorse him.

One enormous reason I favor its independence. Make a deal to keep the bases and cut them loose.

” dangerous, he is a demagogue, he is offensive, and he really does not have the qualifications or fitness to be our nation’s next president,”

Last I checked the qualification for a President was a natural born citizen and 35 years old

Hawaii Republicans are non existent unless they are left of center and are fortunate to be in a heavy Military district. That is at the State level. There are two Districts for DC representation, forget about it.

There’s been 3 elected. Sen. Hiram Fong (1959-77), Rep. Patricia Saiki (1987-91), and the aforementioned Rep. Charles Djou (who served all of 7 months in 2010).

There is not a more racist place in the US than Hawaii. They need a real hard look at themselves first.

Are they afraid Donald Trump will discover ubummer's Hawaiian birth certificate isn't valid?

That didn't seem to bother the RATs and odumbo in 2008. They didn't have any qualms about him either in 2012 even after four years of clearly demonstrated incompetence and treasonous behavior.

Well, I have 33 years in the Sandwich Isles, and I see much more than morons & racists
everywhere. In fact, I love Hawaii. The aloha & ohana spirit here I will take any day when the civil unrest starts on the mainland.

The blueness of Hawaii owes much to a land controlled by 6 major local companies
joining forces with the labor movement of the 1960s. The history is quite different
from the other 49 states.

Having said that, as one who has worked for a two party system, it has been extremely
frustrating. And a guy like Djou, who I know personally, epitomizes Hawaii's sorry
attempt to establish a modern Conservative party. And that goes for Rohlfing as well,
albeit both nice fellows. The Republican Party at present is about the sorriest organization
in the country. But we went for Trump, so maybe there is hope on our magnificent horizon!

The Republican party hasn’t had a real leader in so long, that lots of elected trough feeders have no idea how to react when one finally shows up.

Get a clue, you worthless, empty cowards. You’d better snap to, and act like you know what your job is, before “You’re Fired!”
