With Donald Trump in Charge, Republicans Have a Day of Reckoning
NYT ^ | May 4, 2016 | Michael Barbaro

Now that Donald J. Trump is the presumptive presidential nominee, a parade of prominent Republican leaders is breaking with the traditions and rituals of party unity and offering him a blunt message:

Nope. Never. I can’t. I won’t.

In a flurry of social media posts and interviews over the last 24 hours, these Republicans raced to distance themselves from Mr. Trump, delivering a remarkable rebuke to him at precisely the moment when parties usually coalesce around a candidacy.

Mark Salter, a longtime strategist for Senator John McCain of Arizona, sounded resigned and disgusted as he said the unthinkable: He was now prepared to back Hillary Clinton.

“The GOP is going to nominate for President a guy who reads the National Enquirer and thinks it’s on the level,” he wrote on Twitter late Tuesday. “I’m with her.”

The dissenters, who range from wizened elders to younger strategists and even elected officials, are loudly and publicly proclaiming their unwillingness to support Mr. Trump.

Many have expressed reservations about him in the past, but left open the possibility they might back him in the future. Now they are forcefully foreclosing that option.

Makes sense.
A large portion of the GOP upper echelon are members of the 'Uni-Party'. They do not want anyone to rock the boat, and upset their gravy train. They are leaches on the American public.
They perceive that Trump might actually rock this boat. We can only hope.

-- Trump is a high risk candidate. --

That's a reasonable assessment at the moment, but I'm not of a mind that it's true - and I'm firmly of a mind that it's not true come the general election or governing. He's less risk in the long run than McCain or Romney were, in my eyes. He has at least as good a chance to win the general, and I think he'd govern to the right of either McCain or Romney.

somebody entirely opposed to what are in theory the official GOP positions.

To which official GOP positions is Trump "entirely opposed."

For those of you in Rio Linda let me translate...

"Oh crap, AZ will be on fire for Trump, John might not make it through the primary"....

I do not. And it does not mesh with anecdotal evidence so far.

The Times is reporting accurately on the Never Trumpers. But in the scheme of things, it is a small group of globalists that have been out of touch with voters for a very long time.

They are mean and will serve as the media go-to “conservative” guys to smear and slam Trump.

"They will come around for November."

I don't want them to come around, I want them to leave. Leave and experience the Glorious Workers Paradise that Kim Jong Hill and Bernie will give us.

With that said, we need to start a go fund me page for all those that are NeverTrump, Kristol, Kruthammer etc etc etc. So they can immigrate to Cuba.

1-800 Get-Lost has a nice ring to it...

They will all come around in a week or two. This is just sour grapes.

Heck, Hillary does not even need to campaign now! She can waltz right into the Oral Office!

Let's hope she believes it!

We keep hearing what a loser Trump is as he gets landslide after landslide. To these people he will be a loser when he becomes president in a landslide. Just a big mistake, didn’t really happen

RINOs are outing themselves. The party has been infested with them and now they are self purging. Can that be bad?

Outrageous is that so many folks have completely ignored Trump’s history,

actually, what’s outrageous is your silly outrage over people exercising their own political inspiration...

the fact that some people view the political landscape differently than yourself is not the least bit outrageous; it’s actually quite healthy...
