What Went Wrong for Ted Cruz
Weekly Standard ^ | May 04, 2016 | Fred Barnes

Posted on 05/04/2016 4:56:00 AM PDT by Magnatron

What happened to Ted Cruz? A month ago, he won the Wisconsin primary in a landslide and was poised to combat Donald Trump with a fresh burst of enthusiasm. Now he's out of the race and Trump is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

Things happened in two cycles, some in recent weeks and others that plagued his campaign from the beginning. As Trump said last night, Cruz is tough and smart. But he made big mistakes as a presidential candidate.

Apologies after the vote are hollow.

Very interesting take on why you turned off Cruz, mom. I have different reasons (as a NYer I loathed his values comment) but enjoyed reading yours. Thanks for posting.

I agree. The more I learned, the more I was turned off by Cruz. I began to see why so many in his life just didn't like him personally, and then the Chicago riot statements, along with the cozying up to the GOPe kind of sealed the deal for me. But I still think the "big political brush stoke" look by Barnes is right on. Cruz just didn't really run his campaign right to overcome the personal and professional deficiencies.

Is there evidence of his involvement in Seven Mountains Dominianism?

Cruz’s persona seemed to lack personal depth, was more a plaster saint and less engaging than I’d have expected. Trump tested this eight ways from Sunday and the cracks appeared. I think better that we knew it from Trump’s challenges than that we knew it from the wider world’s challenges.

I believe the good Lord told Cruz, “No, it is not done this way.” If he can shake off the dominionist ideas, he might actually have some success later in his life.

Succinct but accurate. He was very unlikeable. I don’t think people such as Barnes want to admit that - because if that idea takes root, there will be no lifetime career pols.

"I'm certain that Trump entered this thing almost on a lark, with no intention of getting too far."

Sure, I've got $35-40MM to throw around on a lark. Why not?

" What Went Wrong for Ted Cruz?"

Ted Cruz, is what went wrong with Ted Cruz.

It seemed mostly circumstantial. Openly hobnobbing with Mormon takes on Christianity (Beck) is something most orthodox mainstream Christians won’t do, and there had to be a reason for it. His father attempted to get God to anoint him into dominionist privilege, which is an invitation to spirits of the wrong kind. There is a reported video of Ted’s expressing condign aspirations when Ted was about 18.

Did Ted still swallow the whole hog at this later date, only God knows. Why didn’t someone ask him about it, even a Trump agent? But it is an anti biblical notion.

His immense ambition overwhelmed his sense. Trump is ambitious but it’s tempered by a warm, fun personality. He simply connected to ‘ordinary’ people so much better than Cruz. That final confrontation between an oblivious Cruz and a humorous, redneck Trump supporter put it all together for me.

Trump isn’t a complete social conservative, although he holds some positions that are. His fiscal and security positions are conservative.

This election is about our sovereignty and trade. Read security and businesses/jobs. Nothing else matters if those are not nailed down, which they are not.

Of course, we all know this.

I look around at inner cities and young people I see. They don’t know and have not been taught to know much of anything. They are indoctrinated. People’s future is at stake, and they do not see it. They buy the emotional arguments they’ve been taught for a long time and have not learned to think.

Our morals are collapsed. Work toward rectifying them will only come from secure positions in work and in a secured nation.

Trump addresses these head on.

My two cents.

And yeah, I’m a guy and guys aren’t “supposed” to think about that kind of thing which is usually in women’s bailiwick. Life circumstances forced the awareness on me, and I come across more touchy-feely than most guys do.

I believe that Mrs. Trump would be the first foreign-born First Lady since John Quincy Adams’ wife.

You know, I don’t think it’s touchy-feely. I think women who are the more vulnerable sex - and the mother of children - have a biological gene to read people more accurately than men. I’m not saying men have no ability to read people but women generally do it better. Generally. We all make mistakes.

rednecks r importunt :-)

Donald has a redneck background in his WWE participation. Why a business mogul would want to do this, with money to pursue his druthers no matter what they were, I guess says that he never really left his Pennsylvania roots even though he got to live as a New York City slick.

I know I wouldn't do that which is why a bible thumper like myself could never run for anything. But, since that is true for me, how can anyone run as the supreme bible thumper of the 17 on stage and hope to win. Most people who call themselves Christians are not bible thumpers and don't really want to hear about or talk about what is in the Word of God. Sad situation that.

His father attempted to get God to anoint him into dominionist privilege, which is an invitation to spirits of the wrong kind. There is a reported video of Ted’s expressing condign aspirations when Ted was about 18.

I don't follow the phrase "anoint into dominionist privilege" but it sounds Mormon. Also what is condign aspirations? I looked up the word but it must be specific to the cult or something.

Did Ted still swallow the whole hog at this later date, only God knows. Why didn’t someone ask him about it, even a Trump agent? But it is an anti biblical notion.

The whole "Lets take the country/world for Christ" is an unbiblical notion that's for sure!
