STORRS >> The University of Connecticut is providing its students with therapy dogs to help relieve the stress of final exams.

The dogs will be available for petting at the school’s Homer Babbidge Library from Monday afternoon through Friday afternoon.

...

The school says it is keeping the dogs in a space that won’t impact students with allergies who may also need to use the library.

I think this is goofy. Not the dog Goofy. Wouldn’t it be more cost effective to simply provide them old 1950s cartoons. I know that those cartoons used to make me feel better.

Whatever happened to the more traditional forms of collegiate stress reduction- carousing and alcoholism? It always worked for me.

I think it's a great idea.

Who doesn't like the unconditional love you get from a dog ?

The dogs will do better on the finals than the snowflakes.

Therapy dogs go all kinds of places. My dog and I just got home from a convalescent home where we visited with a bunch old old sick people. These people are stuck there until they die of sadness and loneliness.

The dogs cheer them up and most of them appreciate our visits. The staff always tells us we lift everyone’s mood.

On Tues we are going to a university to give the students a break from studying for finals. I don't see a problem with any of that.

I am in Houston not Conn BTW.

LOL.

I’ll bet these UConn students would be fun to watch if Trump’s name were chalked into their campus sidewalks.

Amphetamines? Of course, as an English major, I never found finals week to be particularly stressful.

I went 20 years between having dogs. I filled the interim getting dog therapy from every canine I encountered along the road through life.

How in the H*ll did we survive finals week?

I figured if I hadn't learned it by finals week, I wasn't going to. We had marathon Spades and Hearts games that week.

Wait.....didn’t people used have something called “friends and family” to help them out in times of difficulty?

Friends are the 8932 strangers on your Facebook where hugs have been reduced to a texted ((hugs))!!! There is no need these days for actual human contact.

If your coworker has a prescription for the therapy dog from a mental health professional, it would probably be a violation of the ADA for your company to bar the dog from its premises. That’s how far down the lunacy trail we have come.
