Ted Cruz’s Support Softens Among the Delegates He Courted
NY Times ^ | May 1, 2016 | JEREMY W. PETERSMAY

Even as Donald J. Trump trounced him from New Hampshire to Florida to Arizona, Senator Ted Cruz could reassure himself with one crucial advantage: He was beating Mr. Trump in the obscure, internecine delegate fights that could end up deciding the Republican nomination for president.

“This is how elections are won in America,” Mr. Cruz gloated after walking away with the most delegates in Wyoming.

But it turns out that delegates — like ordinary voters — are susceptible to shifts in public opinion. And as the gravitational pull of Mr. Trump’s recent primary landslides draws more Republicans toward him, Mr. Cruz’s support among the party’s 2,472 convention delegates is softening, threatening his hopes of preventing Mr. Trump’s nomination by overtaking him in a floor fight.

I am still hoping and expecting Trump to get the needed 1237 delegates on the first ballot and then it will be all over.

They could care less about public opinion. But they don’t want to be left on the outside if Trump gets into the White House.

This isn’t democracy. It’s kabuki theater. It’s a shell and pea game. God, I miss the days when Americans would take to the barricades in defense of the republic. Now, no amount of dogs barking has any effect on the caravan.

“Anyone want to predict Cruz’s future after this?”

Future? What future?

After this Cruz doesn’t have one.

If he had behaved as a true Republican and honorable person, he could have had a bright future, but he is so blinded by ambition, that he is self-destructing.

Everyone in the GOP knows this race is over, except Cruz (in denial) and Kasich (delusional).

He’ll switch to the Democrat party. He’s burned all his bridges and has no future with the party.

If he’s courting that many people, his wife will eventually have to put her foot down and reign in the wanderer...

In a just world, he'd be cleaning toilets in a Mexican restaurant. Instead, he'll land something comfortable in the mid-six figure range.

Still, it's going to be nice witnessing the end of this loathsome man's political career.

He’ll finish his term in the Senate making meaningless speeches, sounding like Robert Byrd with the “politispeak”...
No one will pay any attention to him...Every speech will be anti Trump...

He’ll be soundly defeated for re-election in Texas and join some massive law firm in Washington...

With all his purported understanding of, and love for, the Constitution, he forgot the very first words of that Constitution's Preamble--

"We, the People"

.

Good question. Dominion doesn’t necessarily have to come via the elective route.
So who knows what may open up in some global type system that may become an
avenue for him to rise.

I personally doubt he’ll seek another term as senator as history indicates that
six years seems to be about max for any one position for him to hold.
