Donald Trump Calls for GOP Unity in California Convention Address Marked by Protests
Wall Street Journal ^ | Apr.29, 2016 | Alejandro Lazo

Republican front-runner Donald Trump, campaigning in California following fresh primary victories, called for party unity during an address at the state’s GOP convention while protesters denounced him and clashed with police outside.

At the lunchtime gathering, Mr. Trump said he was best positioned to beat Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton in a general election matchup. He said he would put into play New York, Florida, Michigan and Pennsylvania in November, states that have backed the Democratic nominee in most recent presidential elections.

“The Republican Party, in a presidential sense, doesn’t win anymore,” Mr. Trump said. “You pick your standard cookie-cutters…I am different, because, I am going to win states that nobody else can.”

Trump has generously given them the opportunity to come in off the ledge.

Excellent observation! I thank that is exactly what he did.

You’re different alright Donald. I guess we’ll have to elect you to find out how much different you really are.

just as they (Left, Libs & likely many in Gope) all cheered obama’s hope and change of 2008 to usher in destruction of USofA and many of us shuttered at the thought of what was coming -

now the tide has turned and we cheer as they not just shutter but freak out.

I don’t recall conservatives and most republicans doing the sort of things/riots of Chicago or so cal in 2008.

Trump is anything but a lib Dem.

All you need to do is watch who is getting protested and rioted by the left. That’s who they fear.

It ain’t St. Ted of Calgary.

Lemme re-do your equation:

He is for shutting down borders.
Boehner/McConnell were not.
If he “works” with them, it will be “they will work for him.”
If you oppose closing the border, YOU might be the lib Dem.

He gets it - and how to run a campaign....to WIN for once....

sCruz is unhindged, he lost me with the Glenn Beck endorsement and the attacks on Trumps wife, which was not fair game and out of bounds

Calpublican,

We know everything about DJT, and Trump will be the republican nominee.

He has the endorsements of real patriots & conservatives that we admire the most: Jeff Sessions, Duncan Hunter, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Jerry Falwell, Phyllis Schlafley, etc.

Trump holds unprecedented wins in many states winning every county & CD.

He will carry the essential swing states of FL, VA, OH, & PN.

Trump will win purple states and blue states!

You will rejoice in the Trump winnings on election night.

Don’t be on the losing side of America & history. Join the party of winners!

It’s a game. GOPe (which includes Boehner) is terrified of Trump. By pretending to hate Cruz, Boehner, Peter King, etc., hope to draw some Trump voters to Cruz’ side.

Boehner doesn’t hate Cruz. Cruz was so easily manipulated to do the GOPs’s bidding in the Senate. Candy from a baby. They know that if Cruz is in the Oval Office they’ll be in charge again.

“I still say California is also on the table with him.”

Sadly they’ll be Democrat for another generation. The combination of radicalized Hispanics (unlike the Hispanics in many other states, like Texas, who actually look at themselves as Americans first) and the looney crowd is just too much for any Republican to overcome out there.

But Trump is DEFINITELY connecting with displaced whites, people who are despised by the GOPe as much as much as they’re despised by the Democrats. Those people are HUGE in number, and spread out everywhere, unlike Hispanics that are highly concentrated in states that are pretty much no longer in play (like TX, CA, NY), with the exception of Florida.

That rally in Costa Mesa was something.

It was announced a few days prior to the event and sold out, or registered out...

Orange County is nowhere near as Conservative as it used to be, but it came out for Trump.

What you see are the ugliest Latinos. Many of them in the state are like Latinos everywhere else. They do consider themselves Americans and are embarrassed by the userper sect.

They will go Trump.

Law and order sells. Patriotism sells. National pride sells. More and better jobs, sell.

California is in play. Further, as Trump’s ideology settles in, the worst parts of California come under pressure to change.

Trump will wind up being the best thing to happen to California since Reagan.

Folks, it is morning in America again.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d LOVE to see California in play, and obviously there are millions of them that love America. But it’s all a numbers game to win:

In Texas, overall, Hispanics vote 40% or higher for conservative Republicans, based on exit polls. I don’t know the number for California, but I’d suspect it’s closer to 25%, maybe lower. That’s where the problem is. Add to that the disproportionate number of white nut cases, gays, etc. and it’s simply very hard for any Republican to get traction there.

Texas elections would be much closer, if Hispanics here voted as they do in California...thankfully they don’t.

Anyway, if Trump can get California to at least somewhat to the right, it may wind up causing Hillary to spend a lot of effort just to be sure she wins it...that is certainly possible.

Most folks have this perception that California is 80% Leftist.

In truth we lose elections at the very worst at about 62.5% vs 37.5%.

Of course that sounds terrible, until you realize a 6.25% +1 vote swing wins it for you.

If you folks think Trump can’t swing the vote 6.25% +1 vote, you haven’t been paying attention.

Can I guarantee it? Of course not. Is it possible? Hell yes.

This is very doable folks.
