Running with a Gun in Dallas

Open Carry Exercise Dallas TX

Legal open carry of modern handguns was partially restored to Texans on January 1st, 2016.  I was visiting Texas at the time and open carried a bit, but the cool weather in January made concealed carry more practical.  I returned to Dallas in April, to visit family and a new grandchild.

This morning, on my aerobic exercise run, I was running west on Rosemeade Parkway.  A black and white police SUV approached on the other side of the boulevard, but did not slow down, and continued on its way without any sign of interest in me.  It was very near the Dallas/Carrollton border, so it could have been one of a number of agencies.  A couple of days earlier, another black and white had driven by me on Marsh Lane without incident.  Both drive-bys occurred after careful scrutiny by a police SUV a week earlier.

On Saturday, the 9th of April, I was running on the same route, on Rosemeade Parkway.  At that point I had turned around and was running east, on the sidewalk, with the flow of traffic.  The police SUV approached me from behind, and clearly saw that I was openly carrying.  I was wearing the same outfit as in the picture.  The police unit immediately slowed; but they started to impede traffic, so the officer did the sensible thing and sped up, then made a right turn into a sided street.  As I approached the side street without varying my pace, the unit pulled up to Rosemeade.  This way they were able to obtain a good look at me without impeding traffic or detaining me.

Open carry is a political act. It shouts out that the government has limits imposed by the Constitution. It declares that the individual has rights and power.

That is why it is so hated by "progressives".

That is why it is so hated by "progressives".

AND why it is so hated by every government employee - especially those who are armed. It shows a limitation to their power over you.

Sadly, I will have to go without my CCW until the bureaucracy is satisfied for a few weeks while my CCW is renewed.

I will be open carrying for the first time during this period.

I wish there was a grace period. I tried to do it sooner, but the lady at the sheriff’s office said I was too early. She said that renewals have barely any wait times, unlike new CCW applicants.

He was profiled ... in a good way. Older white guy out for a run. Now if he was running open carry dragging a heavy bag with Sunbelt Savings and Loan slapped across it, and alarms going off a block behind, his age and complexion wouldn’t have mattered quite as much.

I think you might have experienced a transplant cop episode .... we have “texas” cops that are Texans and Texas cops that came here from liberal third world shitty cities. The “transplant cops” being unable to shake off old unconstitutional ways . We had one of such in our small town department ..... he tried to bring “all he ran away from” with him ..... he was run out of town eventually.

Congrats on the new grandchild.

Ugh. Fobus holster. The cheapest piece of shit out there and a liability. Hopefully he’ll learn and get a decent holster. And if you open carry, something with retention (Safariland ALS or similar).

Don't forget the progressive end-game: The ultimate goal of the Elites is total power and control over the lived of the "unwashed masses" (the little people). They cannot have that when the population is armed and able to push back with deadly force.

All totalitarian dictators throughout history knew this, and it was their first move to disarm the population they aimed to control. The current want-to-be dictators know this too. That is why the we constantly hear about the backdoor scratching to slowly boil the 2nd amendment frog so they can remove the last Constitutional bastion that is holding them back from lining up all dissenters and loading them onto cattle cars for the "Re-education" camps.

Those who refuse to learn from history are forced to repeat it...

Different strokes. I love my Fobus.

I’m pretty sure that Dean has tried them all out and has a reason he uses that one.

Go outside and enjoy the fresh air!

“AND why it is so hated by every government employee...”

I was a gov’t employee for several decades. We’re not all evil minions.

...he was run out of town eventually.

Hopefully it was upside down while hanging from a fence rail.

LOL..... no he just couldn’t deal with failing to turn the locals from generations of common sense mindsets . Sort of like a mini obamaesqe virus that “”real”” texans basic immunities killed off at the early stages ..... Our small community of farmers, ranchers etc carry a rifle or both in some form daily. Firearms are no less a burden than a spare tire, insurance, fire extinguisher or first aid kit to “respond” to bumps in lifes arduous path ..........

They never gave me a cool uniform or a gun, either.

Safariland ALS

+1 to that recommendation. It is now my preferred open-carry and USPSA competition holster. (Unlike the "gamers", I compete with what I live with in the real world.)

I'm down to under 1.5 sec to draw from that holster (which includes releasing the retention button) and put a shot in a body "A" zone of a USPSA target at ten yards. Some might think that's a long time, but I am not a young man.

Dean’s explained previously why he likes that one. It is an older style that Fobus no longer makes. It works much better than the model they make now.
