NN Posts Triple Digit Growth in Prime Time; Most in TV

Narrows Gap with Fox News in Total Day to Smallest in Over Seven Years

CNN also #1 on Weekends

CNN ranked #1 in cable news in prime time in April. CNN beat Fox News for the fifth time in the last eight months in M-Su prime time (four of the past eight in M-F prime) among adults 25-54. The last time CNN had this many prime time wins in an eight-month period versus Fox News was over 14 years ago (Nov. 2001). CNN also handily topped MSNBC this month in all dayparts, with CNN besting MSNBC for the 22nd straight month in Total Day (among both total viewers and among adults 25-54) and in prime time (among 25-54). In total viewers, CNN has now beaten MSNBC for the fifth straight month (or seven out of eight months) in prime time. CNN continued to top MSNBC by wide margins during the day (9am-4pm) – posting a +36% advantage in total viewers (630k vs. MSNBC’s 464k) and +58% more among adults 25-54 (161k vs. 102k).

In April, CNN had the most growth of any television network (cable or broadcast) among both total viewers and adults 25-54, increasing triple digits in prime time. Among ALL cable networks in April, CNN ranked #7 in total viewers in M-F prime time. In Total Day, CNN was also up vs. last year, increasing +59% in total viewers and +48% among adults 25-54.

Of particular note, CNN has narrowed the gap with Fox News (196k vs. Fox News’ 215k) to its smallest level (-9%) in over seven years (since October, 2008) in Today Day among adults 25-54. CNN beat Fox News in prime time this month among adults 25-54.

CNN is the best for election nights. Best data, broadest panels, etc. further John King at the board is like an 800 lb gorilla. When anything is close he can take you to the towns that’ll win it in seconds. They’ve done a great job and deserve praise. I’d not been on that channel in 15 years if that. Thanks to Kelly, kraut hammer, Hayes, Will, and the (lol) pro Trump fox crew I found them.

Yup, at least during this election season, I find CNN and even some programs on MSNBC to be more thorough and fair than Fox News. Anderson Cooper, to my surprise, seems to be quite fair with guests, and does not constantly interrupt and combat them. Morning Joe on MSNBC has some really interesting guests, and Steve Kornacki has some good analysis of the delegate count and projections.

All the Trump supporters staying clear of Fox is hurting them. Wonder if Fox will get rid of all the GOPe insiders there? Proabably not.

MSNBC ditched a lot of the opinion shows to go newsier.

Of course it's still the most liberal, but not as bad as it was.

Not a shock. Fox let its resident Trump bashers have too much leeway on the air and that has hurt ratings since the first Republican debate. And CNN has been more objective while covering the Republican primaries and election nights.

If CNN wants to hang onto their gains, then they’ll need to remain objective once it’s between Trump and Hillary. Will they, can they do it?

My wife and I have been watching CNN instead of Fox lately. Anderson Cooper is a lot more reasonable than BOR. Don Lemon is alright. There is not as much yelling on CNN.

The Trump worship is not as overt either.

He got an eight-year contract a few months ago—the longest deal in talk radio since Rush signed his epic, eight-year $400 million contract back in 2008. Of course, Levin isn’t making $50 million a year, but to get a deal of that length, you’re obviously delivering in the ratings (and I’m sure he’s making somewhere in the low seven figures from his radio venture alone)

For the same reason the GOP is going the way of the WHIGS. The GOP is Democrat Lite, FOX is CNN lite. What’s the difference. NEWSMAX Channel is still tolerable.

Debbie Wasserman Shultz has become Megyn’s “go to” person for information. All she does is bash conservatives and defend Hillary Clinton. If FOX thinks this is what the audience that made them wants to hear they are delusional and can only hope it destroys them.

On primary nights I watch Fox Biz and CNN...CNN has been a lot more fair in coverage of Trump than FOX ever was. I did not watch FOX much before the dust up with Meghan...I don’t watch at all now and won’t except for the interview in Mid may with Donald Trump.
