Barrage of Attack Ads Threatens to Undermine Donald Trump
New York Times ^ | APRIL 11, 2016 | NICK CORASANITI and MAGGIE HABERMAN

Posted on 04/28/2016 8:22:40 AM PDT by detective

More than half of the record spending on negative advertising during the 2016 presidential primary has been directed at a single candidate, Donald J. Trump, a barrage that threatens to undermine his candidacy even as he continues to march toward the Republican nomination.

Of the more than $132 million spent on negative ads by candidates and the groups supporting them, nearly $70 million has gone to commercials assailing Mr. Trump, according to a New York Times analysis of data provided by Kantar Media/CMAG. The sharp focus on a single candidate is especially surprising given the exceptional size of the initial Republican field.

This is from a few weeks ago but it is interesting to watch the New York Times hoping that the huge amounts spent on negative ads against Trump would destroy his candidacy.

The MSM and the GOPe coordinated with the anti-Trump PACs as there were article after article saying that Trump was unelectable. The accepted wisdom by the media and the political class was that Trump was finished. That he could never win.

The American people disagreed.

“The American people disagreed.”

Well there is an old saying, that the “customer is always right.”

It's over.

Trump might as well quit.

Look to the track record of these negative attack ads. 55,000 so far and Trump leads by 420 delegates. 15,000 attacks ads in Florida and Trump won by a huge landslide.

The attack ads are unarguably counter productive.

They more they spend, the better he does in the polls.

What a surprise! I hadn’t noticed. Plus the Corrupt Leftist Media have been writing articles and editorials attacking Trump by the thousands, and no one even has to pay for them. People like Maggie Haberman do it for free. Or, maybe, for a bit of pork and bribery.

Hope Trump camp runs some positive ads in Indiana & CA to counter. Anyone know if they are?

Negative ad from Hillary soon to come:

Trump - We should not pay for Germany's defense. Time for Germany to pay.
Germany - Trump is wrong on foreign policy.
Hillary - I agree with Germany.

Trump said he was going to improve the economy and hearing about all the enormous negative ad spending and negative politics, he certainly has done that. I expect this to be just the beginning, wait until he gets the nomination....

Just a drop in the bucket compared to the fall campaign.

Just imagine if half of that money had been spent to support conservatives running for congress and the senate instead of being blown on useless ads.

When the electorate is angry at the powers that be, the more the powers that be attack the person they perceive as taking them on, the better the person being attacked will do.

This is simple psychology, and he fact the GOPe et al thinks they can derail Trump by attacking him shows just how out of touch with reality they are.

These guys are crooks and theives and they are stealing your country.... And they hate me and will do anything to stop me because I am telling the truth.... then those folks go.. The guy telling you that is a bad bad man... and the man just says, See I told you so! And his poll numbers go up another 5 points.
