House Panel Approves Measure to Require Women to Register for Draft

The House Armed Services Committee on Wednesday approved by a narrow margin an amendment to a defense bill to require women to register for the draft.

Rep. Duncan Hunter, a Republican from California, proposed the amendment to lift the restriction on women registering for the selective service at a committee-wide mark-up session of the proposed fiscal 2017 National Defense Authorization Act.

"Here is why I think this is important; it doesn't matter in this debate whether you think women should be in the infantry or be in special operations," Hunter said during the session on Wednesday night. "I personally don't. If we had that vote in committee today I would vote against women being in infantry and special operations.

“Equality....feminists should NOT decry this.”

They didn’t. The fools voted for it.

“We have not been in Vietnam or Korea, or World War II, where you have thousands of people a day dying, where you have massed artillery fires, where you have massed tank units rolling through people’s lines we have not seen that,” Hunter said.

“That is what a draft is for,” he added. “A draft is because people started dying in the infantry and you need more bodies in infantry, that is what a draft if for. The administration would like to make this decision on its own. I think we should make this decision.”

Hunter, who requested a roll-call vote on the measure, ended up voting against his own amendment. The amendment passed 32 votes to 30 votes, with strong support from female committee members.”

What does the ruling class care just more cannon fodder to them. Be interesting to see if the Obama girls get drafted when the time comes.

Dear God, I hate what this country has become. Sending women to death? Women that are supposed to be bearing and nurturing the next generation? It’s evil, pure evil.

IIRC, Charlie Rangel propsed this to get the Republicans to vote for it before a previous election. You realize the Left will use this as a battering ram against us, don’t you Mr Hunter?

What stupidity! We should be moving the other direction, ditching the draft completely. We have an all-volunteer force, and no one in their right mind wants draftees in the military.

If we are ever in such a dire situation that we need a draft, then we can always bring it back. But right now, registering for it makes no sense.

Good...

there are plenty of military jobs right here in the US for women that would leave the men free to go and fight...

if the men are required to register for the draft so should the women...

in fact as I listened to trump’s foreign policy speech I realized he may have to get Congress to pass a draft bill..

if someone insists on women on the front lines the special forces, SEALs etc should have control over the training testing etc and set the threshold as high as they want to...

The women should be required to qualify just as the men are without extra help...

if you don’t pass you don’t get to join the group...

no social agendas any more...

The committee chair , Thornberry, said that the president should not decide on selective service - that the only ones who can decide is congress and that there is a court case that challenges the selective service being male- only.

Well, it is true that there are many jobs in the military that can be done by women just fine. Driving a truck or a tank or a mortar track. Sighting in a mortar platoon, and even dropping don’t take a lot of strength. Logistics, intel, and of course all the REMF roles. Army Corps of Engineers does mostly construction running earth moving equipment and surveying tools that women can operate perfectly well.

Infantry is the worst use of women on a battlefield. The men around them will worry about them, hit on them, fight over them, and morale will go to pot when women are injured or killed.

I do wonder how much welfare a military draft would eliminate, though. If welfare ended after 6 months and then you either have to get a job or drafted, I suspect most welfare recipients would find a job. The ones that ended up in the military might actually learn some discipline and life skills while not costing us any more than they did collecting welfare.

The progressives and feminists assured us there would never be a draft for women. They lied. What will they lie about next? At church, everyone is shaking their heads about transgender bathrooms.

You have to let the libtards own this, this is what they want.

Bodies mean nothing to them until it hurts them politically or its their daughters that die. Then they will demand it gone as hard as they demand total unrestricted abortion.

Methinks, once most women realize this, that they could be drafted, or if choice to be in combat is removed from women and they could just as easily end up in mortal combat as women do, you will see a precipitous drop in the number of women signing up to join the military forces. This may be one way to keep women OUT of the military, rather than signing up for it. The reerse effect.
