Don’t lose perspective because this guy backs Cruz;
Note the WTOP narrative makes a gratuitous use of the term “part time senator” and uses it as a slam because station policies support going after Assad. I don’t know of any state legislature which requires their legislators to be in session 24/7 . Even though most in reality are on 24/7 duty.
Very likely this has nothing to do with Cruz but is a personal decision on the the part of Black who has been working with Chrisitan groups there.

In any case, Black is right. Assad is preferable to any of the viable alternatives in Syria, where allies of the Al Quaeda-affliated Al Nusra front are what pass for the "moderate" opposition.

His opponents murder people because they're Christian, Pagan (Yazidi, etc), or the "wrong" kind of Muslim. And unlike Assad, they and their allies wage acts of terror against western countries.
Deciding which is worse given these two alternatives should be a no-brainer, which is evidently still a challenge for Obama, Hillary, and the neoconservative flank of the Republican party.
