Chris Van Hollen, the seven-term congressman from Washington’s northern Maryland suburbs, has won the Democratic primary against congresswoman Donna Edwards for one of the state’s soon-to-be-vacant Senate seats on Tuesday night.
The win in heavily Democratic Maryland’s primary all but assures that Van Hollen, a key ally of House minority leader Nancy Pelosi, will be seated in the US Senate in 2017.
Van Hollen’s win also likely means that longtime Democratic Senator Barbara Mikulski’s seat will likely be filled by a man – an outcome that Emily’s List, the powerhouse fundraising organization dedicated to electing pro-choice women to office, unsuccessfully spent $2.4m to avoid.

Is Mikulski in the closet?
Damn! If there is a credible Republican in Maryland, I hope he/she will run against this guy. He’s a flaming liberal like Reid, Pelosi and Schumer!
Unfortunately, Maryland is a flaming liberal state, like California or Massachusetts.
Mikulski is what she is, someone suited to be a union shop steward promoted way beyond her competency level. I do not mean this primarily as a criticism of Mikulski. It’s an indictment of Maryland. Maryland’s Senators have long been complete zeros. That was true long before Mikulski came on the scene. They are sure party line hack votes, which is all Democrats really care about, but when was the last time a Maryland Senator made any real contribution on any issue, even on the wrong side? We could save a bit of money if we simply gave two proxies to the Democratic leader in the Senate and dispensed with the Senators and their staffs.
Van Hollen is another Democrat anti-gun nut.
The Republicans can put a dent in this guy by pointing out the Democrats sweeping anti-gun legislation has done nothing but cause gun crime to rise.
So, you noticed also.
Mikulski’s “vision” doesn’t extend more than half a mile from Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. She is in the Senate to vote the party line and serve the gimmedats, and that’s it.
She lives again, she has been cloned!
