The Philippines has its own version of Donald Trump, and he’s campaigning as hard for the presidency of the Philippines as is Trump in the U.S. He’s shouting out controversial charges and claims about as often as Trump, and he’s about the same age.
The difference is that Rodrigo Duterte, the 70-year-old mayor of Davao, the country’s fourth largest city and largest on the strife-torn large southern island of Mindanao, is a long-time politico with a reputation for brutality whereas Trump is a real estate tycoon whose tough talk may or may not translate into deeds. While Trump was building luxury hotels, apartments and casinos, Duterte was attacking crime in “Murder City” by attacking and killing criminals.
“Am I the death squad,” he asked rhetorically on a TV talk show. “That is true.” Ranking Davao the world’s “ninth safest city” in a speech, he hurled more questions. “How do you think I did it? How did I reach that title among the world’s safest cities? Kill them all.” Indeed, during his years as mayor, more than 1,000 people have died in vigilante killings.
Duterte’s brazen boasts and threats go to the gut instincts of a populace fed up with murders, drugs, and corruption while Trump wins popularity by promising to “make America great again” in a war against enemies at home and abroad. Human rights crusaders may decry Duterte on the basis of both his record and his remarks, but he remains undeterred in the face of attacks from activists, women’s groups, national leaders – all those who see him as trampling over propriety, common sense, basic law and taste.

Yeah. Down in Davao. The last time I traveled there it was not safe but he cleaned it up.
I was in Olongapo in 63 and Marcos kept it safe for the fleet.
Yesterday it was reported he said he’d have been the first to have raped a woman who was brutally killed in a prison riot in the nineteenth century. The Australian and American ambassadors decried the statement and he said they should shut up or he would stop diplomatic relations with the US and Australia. He is, apparently, pro-Chinese, according to the same FR article.
Does he know what the chicoms are up to?

Duterte is Mayor Guilliani on steroids. The MSM just discovered he might win instead of the NWO’s designated guy, so they are going full court press to destroy him.
He has nothing in common with Trump, except that he is popular.
As for “Death squads”: in our area, they finally “cleared out” the NPA but we now have drug related deaths, with bodies found mutilated in fields. And politicians call hits on their rivals.
So we have lots of middle class folks with Duterte stickers around...yes lots of other stickers, but none for Poe, the American lady who is running against him, and only one with the elite choice who is losing in the polls.
However, Duterte might not let the Americans back in. Like most of us, he feels American wants to push the Philippines around but won’t help us against CHina’s grab of our fishing grounds. So he might just tell China to invest in jobs and keep the fish. (And alas the sea lanes to Japan, but since China moved onto them in plain sight and Obama did nothing, it would take war to get them off).
You should see the number of stickers here in Davao City. If he is elected president, we are wondering who will be the next mayor? Probably his son or daughter, so they will keep it in the family.
My sis in law is Filipina and she has relatives in Davao.
The dude is for real.
You cant smoke outside and he sends hit squads to annihilate thieves, rapists, purse snatchers and murderers, especially mooslum terrorists. This is like an oasis in the middle of mecca. I’ve been to Davao and every woman my family knows there walks freely with their bags unlike before..
Yes, if you can’t discredit Trump on the merits, compare him to a Philippine thug.

He already apologized for that. Like Trump, he first says what on his mind before he thinks. And then he walks it back later.
