Donald Trump Won the Hispanic (Republican) Vote in New York City

Washington, DC GOP frontrunner Donald Trump won more than 50 percent of the Hispanic vote in New York City, according to exit polls.

Analysis of the New York Times‘ vote tracker shows Trump won 61 percent in areas with at least a 50 percent Hispanic population.

“It’s an unexpected victory to many political pundits and establishment Republicans who were sure Mr. Trump would [repel] the Hispanic vote through his bombastic statements and immigration plan,” the Washington Times’ Kelly Riddell reports.

According to Riddell, in a poll taken prior to the New York primary, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 97% and Ohio Gov. John Kasich were favored over Trump by the Hispanic community.

“New York is Mr. Trump’s home state, and Mr. Cruz’s ‘New York values’ comment could’ve hurt him worse than anyone predicted. But it’s still interesting Mr. Trump pulled out a win with this demographic, and it might mean — despite what the polls are saying and most in the political and punditry class — that he’s not doomed in the general,” Riddell adds.

Your joking right?

This ain’t Utah.

There are almost as many Hispanics in Chicago and New York than there are in Texas.

Strange but true (I know the Texans wouldn’t believe it, but we have just as much mexican food up here in the Yankeeville as they have): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_Hispanic_and_Latino_population

There were only 525,000 votes cast in the NY GOP primary, so it’s not surprising Mr. Trump won Hispanics. I suspect he won almost all demo’s.

Not surprising- Truth be told- Puerto Ricans are not in solidarity with Mexicans and vice versa- so they are not going to be offended by cracking down on illegal immigration.

Only exception would be that communist Luis Gutierrez from Chicago

Trump won the Republican Hispanic Vote. Most Hispanics, however, voted in the Democratic Primary, so the win means nothing in November.

Well, it would matter wouldn’t it if he LOST the REPUBLICAN Hispanic vote... wouldn’t it?

and it was a closed primary.

How would it have mattered if he lost the Republican Hispanic vote? There’s so few of them that the totals wouldn’t matter in the General anyway.

And the goal is to win the Presidency, not to win the Republican nomination.

Actually, to win the general one must get crossovers

Trump has gotten more Hispanic / Black crossovers than anyone in recent history.

The goal is to win the presidency.

You don’t do that by losing people.

I don’t see your point here... Maybe we are in agreement that Trump is in a better position than any Bush, Romney or McCain has been in?

What is your point?

The illegal Mexican immigrant is the enemy of the legal US citizens of Puerto Rican birth. This fact is continually obfuscated and denied by the “apologists” for unrestricted and unvetted acceptance of foreign nationals who used no formal procedures to enter the boundaries of that territory once known as “the United States of America”.

The presumption that everybody who enters in this manner has some secret desire to somehow be accepted as a US citizen is completely unfounded and has no place in any discussion of what to do about the flood of people now skulking here, some of them quite openly, who are actively engaged in defiance of the existing law. Why would they want to be a citizen of any country which had such low standards?

Aren’t most Hispanics in NY Puerto Rican? Unlike other Hispanic groups PRs are all here legally.

How many are registered Republicans?

My only point is that in the New York Primary, there were 870,000 Republican votes cast, and 1.8 million Democratic votes cast.

There were more Hispanics voting in the Democratic primary than in the Republican primary.

I'm sure Trump won the Black vote in New York as well, among Republican voters, but that is not going to translate into a victory among that demographic in the fall.

This story makes it sound as if in spite of Trump's strong anti-illegal immigration message, he won Hispanics. My point is he only won Republican Hispanics, a minority of the Hispanics in New York. Presumably, if you are a Republican Hispanic, you're not inclined to support illegal immigration anyway, so the "wall" message didn't offend you. If this is the case, then wining that demographic isn't revealing much for November.

Historically, Blacks vote 90% Democratic, but you're going to boast if you win a majority of the remaining 10%?

LOOK TRUMP JUST PUT $20 MIL OF HIS OWN MONEY (NOT TAX DEDUCTIBLE BY THE WAY) INTO HIS CAMPAIGN

he is hiring political insiders and gearing up to get the votes he needs....
like ALL WINNERS he is increasing the pace down the final stretch and then will rip Hillary to shreds... she is an easy target and the most difficult will be where to start on her CROOKED CAREER...

CROOKED HILLARY.... hahahahahahaha

Actually Trump has surpassed typical minority participation in both Hispanic and black voting blocks by a wide margin.

While Cruz has under-performed both from Romney and McCain.

I agree, this IS important, and Cruz is behind where the other losers were, while Trump continues to produce minority numbers up where Reagan’s where (and that is needed because some 54% of registered voters identify themselves as “Not Republican”)

Most non mexican hispanics don’t associate themselves with mexicans. Actually look down on them in some cases.

And the goal is to win the Presidency, not to win the Republican nomination.

That does appear to current Cruz "logic". Can't win a plurality of Republican voters, but somehow capture the delegates and secure the Republican nomination; even though his current poll numbers are running in the 20s. Then, somehow, magically, win in a general election where not only are people allowed to vote, but Republicans, Independents, and even Democrats are allowed to vote.
