Trump: I would change GOP platform on abortion
CNN ^ | 04/21/16 | David Wright

Donald Trump said Thursday he would change the Republican Party platform's position on abortion to include exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.

Trump made the remarks during a town hall on the "Today" show on NBC on Thursday morning when host Savannah Guthrie asked him about abortion exceptions.

"The Republican platform every four years has a provision that states that the right of the unborn child should not be infringed," Guthrie said. "And it makes no exceptions for rape, for incest, for the life of the mother. Would you want to change the Republican platform to include the (abortion) exceptions that you have?"

"Yes, I would. Yes, I would. Absolutely," Trump said. "For the three exceptions, I would."

Currently, the Republican platform abortion policy reads: "We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."

Did you know that Phyllis was talked into supporting Trump by someone she trusted? He is now gone.

The other side refuses to compromise and they get everything they want. We compromise our beliefs and values over and over in the hopes we will seem more acceptable to others. It is this lack of conviction that has lost much more ground than any strident stand for any position.

My contention is that the majority of our side isn't even in favor of "no exceptions."

Especially since most of the voters are now mostly snowflakes that melt at the fist sign of a heated argument or hurled accusation of bigotry or hatred.

I've developed a sixth sense for when somebody's going to try and drop the race card on me. They soon find out I don't play that game. Liberals cave almost on cue when they're challenged, they don't know how to respond when we fight back.

Has she withdrawn her endorsement? Didn’t think so.

“And a great patriotic American still.”

No, a great narcissist still. The rest is an act aimed at increasing his financial empire in the end, whether he is elected or not.

Currently, the Republican platform abortion policy reads: “We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed.”

Hey you don't know how many abortions that prevented because they aren't reported.....blah, blah, blah.

Someone may remember when Doles was asked if he agreed with the pro life plank in their platform he replied. No one ever reads that thing.

No, conservatives are not all or nothing. We have even tried to have things done on a state by state basis, according to the will of the citizens of states. The left won’t have it. They will have it all their way, just as parents are not even being given the option of keeping their kids out classes where the sodomite agenda is taught. All or nothing? Don’t make me laugh. A Christian can’t even refuse to make a cake decorated specifically for a sodmite mirage.

“If the right to life is denied, no other rights matter. Nor do walls, immigration policies, and taxes. Everything springs forth from the right to LIVE.”

I disagree. The right to life is God-given and those other issues you say don’t matter, they do matter to the living.

Trump doesn’t know Trumps positions, how the hell do you know what his positions are? Just a month ago he was going to jail women for having abortions, now he is going to change the platform? He is a bad joke.

Begin by banning third-trimester abortions and the particularly odious partial birth abortions, Trump opposes both, and that’s a good first day.

It’s a good start.

Conservative pushback has been terrible. The Texas TRAP law was basically laughed out of court last month and is looking it’s going down in flames come June decision time. It’s almost like they were intentionally poorly written to not stand up to argument. National Republicans do next to nothing about abortion other than use it as a fundraising tool. Same sex marriage is a done deal and every year fewer and fewer people go to church. I don’t know what a viable push back strategy is.

Before it’s over, Trump will make Kasich look conservative.

Very like Tick but it won't elect Cruz.

Good luck, man. I’m in the same boat, wanting to de-emphasize the social component of the party in order to compete more. You’re about to get yelled at.

You don't seem to understand: the very act of framing this issue as a "social component" (as opposed to a moral evil) is a liberal trick which has gutted Christianity in the American public square.

Think of it this way: suppose a terrorist (who's out of reach) is holding a knife to a girl's throat, and says that he will kill her in a few seconds... but he asks if you agree with his pending murder. Does you answer make any "difference"? After all, she's going to die, regardless; pragmatically speaking...

Short answer: morally, it makes all the difference in the world. It distinguishes between "you as a morally upright person" and "you as a morally corrupt person who's complicit in murder". Moral issues are not decided on the basis of how popular they are, or where their polls are, or how advantageous they might be in the general election. They're decided on objective standards of right and wrong... such as the Ten Commandments, etc.

Giving up moral ground in the hopes of gaining some sort of political advantage (which is nonsense, anyway--it never works in the way that the compromiser hopes) is known by a Biblical metaphor: a "mess-o-pottage". (See Genesis 25:29-34.) It's bad.

“Now I fear in the general election he will run to the LEFT of Hillary.”

HOw disingenuous. You don’t “fear” anything regarding Trump’s position and you would be just fine with Hillary.

What has Cruz done to curb abortion? He talks the talk like all good ‘Conservative’ politicians, to please the base. What has he DONE?

The real benefit of the Trump candidacy is that it is undermining the bully apparatus (”political correctness”) by which the Left prevents so many of us from fighting back. The taboo issues have always been those on which the Left has no rational argument for their arbitrary opinions.

We’re quiet because we have jobs and lives. I dont like chicks with dicks in the ladies room but Trump’s statement is not enough to get me to drop my support. On abortion, I would agree with him on these three exceptions.

Sorry, you’re wrong. Romney was who we were left with. Very few FReepers were “championing” him. If you wish to support someone just like Romney than go ahead and support the Donald.

At least Romney didn’t cheat on his wife.
