Stop Wasting Food to Slow Global Warming
Scientific Amerian ^ | April 20, 2016 | By Niina Heikkinen

Cutting down on milk and meat protein are top ways to lower an individual's carbon footprint, said Janet Ranganathan, VP of science and research at the World Resources Institute.

She is the lead author of a report published today that explores how dietary changes in the world's wealthiest nations can affect the environment.

The average American consumer is eating 83 grams of animal-based protein a day, well above the daily recommended amount of 51 grams. The research calls for bringing that overconsumption back in line with global average levels.

Using computer modeling, the report's authors calculated that if 2 billion consumers who eat over the recommended amount of meat cut their animal-based protein consumption in half, it would help to reduce the global "food gap" by 30 percent.

Eventually, activists said they hope to change social norms around behavior so that people will consistently pick vegetable-based proteins over animal-based ones.

They are finally starting to be honest about their intentions. They don’t want us to eat meat, and will tell any lie to serve that end.

Maybe if hitler hadn’t been a vegetarian he wouldn’t have become a mass murderer.

If you’re eating it, you’re not wasting it.

Maybe if hitler hadn’t been a vegetarian he wouldn’t have become a mass murderer.

There is some evidence that the brain function of vegetarians is altered, and they are less able to tolerate stressful situations, and more prone to emotional outbursts. In other words, Hitler's vegetarianism may have been a contributing factor to his narcissistic psychosis.

I quit reading Scientific American about 45 years ago when it became obvious that "science," if any, was secondary to selling a liberal political agenda. I'm proud to say I haven't picked up a copy since.

Here’s what I don’t understand. Why don’t transgenders simply get their birth certificate changed to indicate the sex they have chosen for themselves?

Classic ineptly-written headline. What slows global warming—wasting food? Or stopping wasting food?

I believe you 100% because this article proves you right.
There is no science here just political calculation.

They ran an article on abortion when I was about 12, before it was legal nationwide. The article said that moral objections to abortion were invalid, “because the procedure is never done without the consent of the husband.”

I read some years ago that somebody wrote to them requesting that they report on the Shroud of Turin. The response was: “It is our policy that the Shroud of Turin does not exist.

Computer modeling? You can make that calculation on a napkin with a crayon. Why a crayon? It's the only writing tool the children writing this can be trusted with.

Well, if they want to stop wasting food in general, they can stop providing free breakfast to every child in Los Angeles, because over half gets thrown away. It’s awful.

Bicycled to work again this morning. The birds were singing the trees are in bloom and beautiful. The weather is exactly as expected for April. Global warming is nonsense. I guess if people live in front of a computer, TV, and smart phone they may not actually know what the weather is doing.

A couple Bible Verses come to my mind.

Romans 14:2 One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables.

This one is a verse about the End Times:

1 Timothy 4: 3. Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

“For instance, trading a third of beef consumption for pork or poultry can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 15 percent, Ranganathan said.”

Thankfully, beef does not have that effect on me.
