A mass child marriage ceremony in India has been captured on camera - showing young brides crying as they are forced to wed. The heartbreaking video was taken in Chittorgarh, a city in Rajasthan, northern India, a state in the country that is prevalent for child marriages. In one clip a young girl of around ten-years-old is desperately crying and pleading for help as her father drags her around the customary ceremony.

Forced marriage is child slavery.

But it’s okay because all cultures are equal.

Many in the USA think the Asian Indians can do no wrong: it’s part of popular “diversity”.

I thought that this part of India was heavily Muslim influenced.

Certainly, much of the culture goes back to battles waged from the Assyrians to Alexander to the Mongol hordes.

It simply isn't like anything we know in the West.

I posted before reading the article ... a time honored tradition here on FR.

Looks like it was a Hindi wedding ceremony, and the child brides were married off to teenagers.

At least it wasn't a 10 year old bride being forced to marry a 60 y.o. man.

First we legalized gay marriage in the US and soon polygamy will also be legalized by some unelected federal judge. Can child marriage be far behind especially when all western cultural values have been trampled by political correctness and diversity?

Right now, they are happy to unite in destroying western and Christian culture.

But, at some point, the Muslim supremacists, the homo supremacists and the feminazi supremacists are going to come into direct conflict. It ain't going to be pretty.

Actually I’m reading the Cadfael mystery books and the one I just finished had an attempt to marry a ten year old. If the ceremony had been done properly the marriage would have been binding for life. This was in the early 12th century. I know its fiction but her research of 12 century England is pretty thorough. The marriage however was not to be consummated until after puberty.

Thanks for mentioning the Cadfael mystery books. I am always looking for interesting reads. My library has them available for download, and just about to start one.

Are you equating what might have happened hundreds of years ago and mostly among royal houses to what is happening now in India or muslim countries?

No. I’m just responding to a post that said that the child bride thing didn’t happen in the west. It’s about power and accumulation of wealth. And I do know that in many cultures marriages are arranged even if they do not involve children. As a recovering divorce lawyer, I’m not opposed to arranged marriages if the whole family is involved. The ones I saw that didn’t work were where the families were vastly different culturally and had not spent the time exchanging gifts and having meetings. As recently as the 19th century there in this country children grew up understanding that the pool of marriage partners was specific and limited. My husband and I both have ancestors who lived in Kentucky and we joke that at about the time of the civil war our ancestors looked around at that generation’s crop of cousins and moved west.

So you think that when the poster said it did not happen in the west he should have included instances from hundreds of years ago before making that statement? Really?
How often do forced arranged marriages happen today in the West?
Do you also think Like BO we need to mention the crusades when someone points out the barbarism of radical islam?

RWGinger, I should have made it clear that when I use the term “the West” I mean the Judeo-American Christian West that we have known for less than 200 years.

Regarding modern forced marriages in “the West”, I can't even comment on my daughters’ loser boyfriends without getting “the look”!

I was aware of “arranged marriages” going back to Solomon's time, and it has been a constant of familial action and foreign policy amongst the ruling class since ... well, very early on in the history of man.

Occasionally such arranged marriages produced happiness.

Personally, I appreciated Mercat’s observations as a recovering divorce attorney, and will look up the historical novels of Cadfael.

Of course, all of BO's ridiculous equivalencies are solely used to forward an agenda identical to the Godless Communists of my parents.
